While riding his motorcycle, Quilvio fell and dislocated his left shoulder. When the initial diagnosis was a partially torn rotator cuff, he traveled from the Dominican Republic to HSS, where his sports medicine surgeon confirmed the injury and performed arthroscopic surgery. After successful surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus by an HSS sports medicine surgeon, Ava went on to play soccer at the collegiate level. On the day she was supposed to return to college for preseason, a skateboarding accident resulted in the tearing of her other ACL and meniscus.
