The basket is a crucial ingredient of any good transducer design.
While keeping the moving parts in their position and guaranteeing a perfect function of those parts, it must let them operate as freely as possible, avoiding any sort of compression. Moreover, in a good transducer design, the basket should resonate as little as possible or, eventually, at a much higher frequency than the transducer’s band pass.

Had alot of fun making this table, the Scout Jr. Isn't technically in production anymore but it is one of the items that is available as a closeout through our US dealership and Direct site. As the owner of VPI of course there is the administrative backend of running any company, but building turntables is such an amazing and enjoyable process. I understand why my mom and dad, Sheila and Harry Weisfeld stayed in this industry when Sony launched their CD player.
This post is getting long enough to warrant a blog post... but whatever turntable brand you own take a moment and enjoy the passion and dedication behind that turntable's creation to help bring music into your home. 😊👍

Three separate chambers of the Maxima Amator's solid wood cabinet.
The first, the acoustic volume, optimized using software node simulators and a brand-new damping material made of three layers: two external layers of recycled carbon fiber and one layer of silica fiber in between.
The second chamber is filled with inert material that increases weight, lowers the center of gravity of the system and increases the stability of the structure as well as minimizing its spurious resonances.
The third chamber is dedicated to hosting the IFF crossover, shielded from any possible vibration generated by the speakers in the acoustic chamber.

Making a McIntosh: PCB Testing.
We can produce up to 7,000 Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) per month with some having over 1,000 components. To help ensure the longevity of our products, each PCB is individually tested before it is assembled into a unit. To test them, each PCB is placed into a test fixture specifically designed for that PCB and put through a detailed computer testing procedure, as well as being manually inspected with a variety of test equipment. All of our PCB test fixtures are designed and built in house. Here is just a small sample of the test fixtures in our PCB testing department. After testing, skilled craftspeople hand assemble the PCBs into each unit.

The Zero Vibration Trasmission Technology was developed to avoid the transmission to the floor of vibrations (the ones having frequencies below 80 Hz) caused by the driver’s mechanical excursion. The purpose is avoiding the introduction of “acoustic dirtiness” into the listening environment which negatively impacts the quality of music reproduction. Springs or elastomers are placed on the loudspeaker base. The decoupler’s compliance is calculated based on the weight of the speaker.

The MC2KW monoblock amplifier is designed to exceed the demands of true lifelike playback levels, capable of delivering 2,000 Watts of continuous power and 8,000 Watts of peak power into 2, 4 or 8 Ohm speakers. But sheer power output is just the beginning of the story.
