Allen Chu, MD, PhD, is a Harvard University-trained physician with multiple board certifications who specializes in neuromuscular and sleep problems at Houston Neurology & Sleep Diagnostic Center in Houston and The Woodlands, Texas. He’s spent his career studying the intricate workings of the brain and nervous system to help patients improve their health and quality of life.
Dr. Chu has an extensive and prestigious educational background in neuroscience and neurology. After earning his Ph.D. in neuroscience at the University of Iowa, Dr. Chu entered into neurology residency training at Duke University Medical Center, in Durham, North Carolina. During his residency, Dr. Chu was a chief resident and also completed advanced elective training in sleep medicine and electrophysiology at Duke University Medical Center. He then participated in rigorous fellowship training in neuromuscular diseases and EMG (electromyography) at Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Dr. Chu is board-certified in neurology, neuromuscular medicine, sleep medicine, and electrodiagnostic medicine. Dr. Chu sees himself as a real sleep expert, not only because of his board certifications but also because he suffers from sleep apnea and used a CPAP machine for more than fifteen years. These personal experiences allow Dr. Chu to better serve the needs of his patients.
