Congratulations to patient clerical assistant Veronica Molina, who has been recognized with the Achievers Award during Hispanic Heritage Month by the Johns Hopkins Medicine Office of Diversity, Inclusion and Health Equity. The award recognizes and highlights underrepresented minorities across the organization who exemplify excellence and exhibit JHM core values.
Molina's compassion for the Latinx community motivates her to advocate for and provide excellent care for her patients. She took the initiative to become a qualified bilingual interpreter, and uses those skills to connect Latinx patients with local resources for recovery and bring them calm and comfort. The warmth and dedication she brings to her work helps us provide necessary support to our Howard County community.

Approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. The staff at the HCGH Breast Center, pictured here, help our patients fight this disease every day. Please help us show our appreciation to them during Breast Cancer Awareness month by thanking them for their dedication to our community.
As we continue fighting against COVID-19, it is more important than ever to get your flu shot this season. Many people put off getting their shot because they worry it will give them the flu, however, this fear is unfounded. Because the flu shot is not a live virus, you cannot get an infection from the vaccine. Instead, it will boost your immune system and prepare it to fight any flu virus strains it may encounter in the future.

Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and you may be willing to take risks to celebrate normally or attend indoor gatherings. According to the CDC, the more people an individual interacts with at a gathering and the longer that interaction lasts, the higher the potential risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 and spreading the virus. Keep your family and community safe by considering staying home for the holidays and enjoying time with your household members. To learn more, watch the Thanksgiving Guidance Video from HCGH Chief of Infectious Disease Mark Landrum, M.D.
