Howard Shackelford, M.D., is chairman of the Wheeling Hospital’s Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Services. A Wheeling native, Dr. Shackelford earned a bachelor’s degree at West Liberty State College (WLSC), and received his medical degree at West Virginia University. His thoracic and cardiovascular surgery residency was performed at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. His experience includes: general surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiovascular surgery, breast surgery and trauma surgery. Dr. Shackelford is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Angiology. Among his memberships are the American College of Surgeons; the Society of Thoracic Surgeons; the Society of Critical Care Medicine; the American Society of Angiology; the American Society of Breast Surgeons; and the American Society of Professionals in Patient Safety. He also is a member of the City of Hope Clinical Cancer Genetics Community. Dr. Shackelford has offices in Wheeling and St. Clairsville.
