The HSS Sports Medicine Institute brings together the disciplines critical to care for the active individual, including surgeons, primary care sports medicine physicians, radiologists, physical therapists, athletic trainers, clinical research staff and nurses. HSS physicians at this location serve as team physicians and doctors for some of NY’s best known teams. Last year our team treated thousands of patients and professional athletes from more than 80 teams worldwide. Stanley broke his scaphoid bone while playing hockey in the driveway and came to HSS after doctors at a local hospital realized the bones were misplaced upon healing. After 8 months, 1 broken bone, 2 surgeries and a total of 10 casts, Stanley was cleared to play hockey in his removable cast. Maddy sustained a posterior knee dislocation, which severed the popliteal artery, tore through her ACL, PCL, and MCL ligaments, and created damage to the peroneal nerve. She came to HSS, where her physicians treated the ligaments and nerve damage. After 360 days, she was able to run for the first time.
