While riding his motorcycle, Quilvio fell and dislocated his left shoulder. When the initial diagnosis was a partially torn rotator cuff, he traveled from the Dominican Republic to HSS, where his sports medicine surgeon confirmed the injury and performed arthroscopic surgery. When Patricia came to HSS, her diagnosis in Peru was the same as what her spine surgeon confirmed: spondylolisthesis with stenosis. After successful surgery to repair a torn ACL and meniscus by an HSS sports medicine surgeon, Ava went on to play soccer at the collegiate level. On the day she was supposed to return to college for preseason, a skateboarding accident resulted in the tearing of her other ACL and meniscus. When coming to terms with missing her junior season, she knew that HSS and the Ivy Rehab Physical Therapy/HSS Center of Excellence would take care of her one more time. A professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu athlete, Pedro sustained a knee injury before a major competition. He traveled to HSS, where he underwent successful surgery performed by a sports medicine surgeon. Stanley broke his scaphoid bone while playing hockey in the driveway and came to HSS after doctors at a local hospital realized the bones were misplaced upon healing. After 8 months, 1 broken bone, 2 surgeries and a total of 10 casts, Stanley was cleared to play hockey in his removable cast. Maddy sustained a posterior knee dislocation, which severed the popliteal artery, tore through her ACL, PCL, and MCL ligaments, and created damage to the peroneal nerve. She came to HSS, where her physicians treated the ligaments and nerve damage. After 360 days, she was able to run for the first time.
