We're a little late, but World Mental Health Day was this past Saturday, October 10th. Do you know the impact a concussion can have on your student athletes' mental health? At Hughston, we are passionate about protecting our athletes.
According to recent studies, between 1.7 and 3 million sports- and recreation-related concussions happen each year and, if left untreated, can cause significant delays in cognitive development. Dr. Derek Woessner offers a one-on-one concussion management program through a unique tool that is used to measure brain activity, called a quantitative EEG (qEEG). This noninvasive and quick outpatient procedure can be done not only after a concussion, but prior to a concussion, providing a “baseline” for qEEG results received post-concussion. He strongly encourages these baseline tests as they provide a much more precise and comprehensive analysis of the brain in the event that your child does receive a concussion.
