How Important is Irrigation to U.S. Agriculture?
Agriculture is a major user of ground and surface water in the United States, accounting for approximately 80 percent of the Nation's consumptive water use and over 90 percent in many Western States. Efficient irrigation systems and water management practices can help maintain farm profitability in an era of increasingly limited and more costly water supplies. https://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/farm-practices-management/irrigation-water-use/
#GroundwaterFacts
The United States uses 82.3 billion gallons per day of fresh groundwater for public supply, private supply, irrigation, livestock, manufacturing, mining, thermoelectric power, and other purposes.
What is Mining Water Use?
Mining water use is water used for the extraction of minerals that may be in the form of solids, such as coal, iron, sand, and gravel; liquids, such as crude petroleum; and gases, such as natural gas. The category includes quarrying, milling of mined materials, injection of water for secondary oil recovery or for unconventional oil and gas recovery (such as hydraulic fracturing), and other operations associated with mining activities. Dewatering is not reported as a mining withdrawal unless the water was used beneficially, such as dampening roads for dust control.
https://www.usgs.gov/mission-areas/water-resources/science/mining-water-use?qt-science_center_objects=0#qt-science_center_objects
Water wells are extremely important to all societies. In many places wells provide a reliable and ample supply of water for home uses, irrigation, and industries. Where surface water is scarce, such as in deserts, people couldn't survive and thrive without groundwater, and people use wells to get at underground water. https://www.usgs.gov/special-topic/water-science-school/science/groundwater-wells?qt-science_center_objects=0#qt-science_center_objects
What is AR & ASR?
Aquifer recharge (AR) and aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) are manmade processes or natural processes enhanced by humans that convey water underground. The processes replenish ground water stored in aquifers for beneficial purposes. Although AR and ASR are often used interchangeably, they are separate processes with distinct objectives. AR is used solely to replenish water in aquifers. ASR is used to store water, which is later recovered for use.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), water used for irrigation accounts for nearly 65 percent of the world’s freshwater withdrawals excluding thermoelectric power. There are 330 million acres of land used for agricultural purposes in the United States that produce an abundance of food and other products.

Having a Well Drilled? What You Need to Know:
A safe water supply at your home is obviously vital. Homes not served by public water systems most commonly receive their water from private water wells. A water well is not overly expensive, especially considering how devalued a home is on resale if it doesn’t have a viable water supply. This is why hiring a qualified water well contractor is extremely important. Learn the questions to ask from the NGWA website here: https://www.ngwa.org/docs/default-source/default-document-library/groundwater/Having-a-Well-Drilled.pdf
There are three basic types of wells.
1. Bored or shallow wells:
These are usually bored into an unconfined water source, generally found at depths of 100 feet or less.
2. Consolidated or rock wells:
These are drilled into a formation consisting entirely of a natural rock formation that contains no soil and does not collapse. Their average depth is about 250 feet.
3. Unconsolidated or sand wells:
These are drilled into a formation consisting of soil, sand, gravel or clay material that collapses upon itself.
Things you can do to protect your groundwater and water well:
• Maintain your well
• Keep hazardous materials away from your well
• Install a well cap
• Use caution around your well
• Conserve water
• Learn more about well testing.
Is groundwater plentiful?
Yes. About 98 percent of the available freshwater on Earth is groundwater. Every day, the United States uses about
76.4 billion gallons of this water for a variety of purposes.

When the winter storms hit Texas, it closed the restaurants and the grocery store shelves were emptied. Our Challenger 230 crew was at their hotel, under rolling black outs, with no food.
Mike Buse, our Creedmoor GM, opened his home (and his freezer) and started cooking. Drillers may not smile for the camera, but they certainly appreciate a warm meal!
Thank you, to Cody Boehm and his team, for the hardships they endure to get the job done. Thanks, Mike, for caring for the Hydro family, like family.

We've had some rainy days in the beautiful City of Aubrey, Texas. The city requested a 1,600' public supply well with 14" stainless steel casing. Once the surface site work is complete, we will set the submersible pump at 1,350 feet, disinfect, test and video the well for final completion.
