So I decided to venture out from my normal Cuban order from I ❤️ Mac and Cheese, of course I still got the bowl of tomato soup because it would just be absurd if I didn’t. I made a BYO grilled cheese with Muenster cheese, White cheddar cheese, crispy chicken, roasted red peppers, pickles, corn, scallions, and mango habanero sauce... holy smokes the flavor was INCREDIBLE.. I love how many options you have to create your own unique masterpiece! I will definitely be ordering this is the future!
AHH! Nothing like a Baked Chicken Parmesan grilled cheese sandwich to satisfy the appetite! This was my lunch today, and it was MAGNIFICENT!
All sandwiches come with tater tots, I just didn’t want any 😊

If you haven’t noticed, restaurants are closing all over BCS. One thing we have always had here when it comes to eating out is VARIETY! During these unprecedented times, when research suggests that over 47% of the population reports they “definitely avoid eating out”, there are hundreds of local favorite eateries in real jeopardy! There are also some new kids on the block that just need to get stabilized.
We can all do our part to support and protect the variety we have here in Aggieland. Almost all restaurants now have delivery through the third party delivery services, if you aren’t eating out, and many offer online and app ordering as well. But if you don’t make an effort to support the little guys now...they won’t be here to enjoy in the future.
Big chain (fast food and fast casual) restaurants have reported massive increases in sales during the pandemic. Many have a drive-thru and they benefit from being a well known name with multimillion dollar national advertising budgets. But with all due respect, they don’t need the extra business to stay open. The rest of us just need to see something close to regular numbers! The smaller guys have higher costs for many things because they lack the big corporate purchasing power, and they have seen a 50-75% drop in sales (sometimes more), with a strong shift to take out and delivery (which costs more in packaging). They can’t afford to advertise more or run a bunch of specials every week.
One way you can help is to make a point to visit the newer restaurants, the empty restaurants, the lesser known, locally owned restaurants. Pick a different one each week, and branch out. You may be surprised at what you have been missing!
Another thing you can do is find their social media site and like it, follow it, and post a positive review when the food and/or service was good! (Talk to a manager or privately message the establishment if you have a poor experience!) Your effort might just be all that is needed to get through the next day, or week, or month for these small businesses with tiny profit margins.
We know that there are many many people out of work right now who don’t know how they will afford their next meal. If you know folks who are struggling, why not get them a gift certificate, or have a meal delivered to them from a small local establishment? This could feed a family and protect jobs simultaneously!
Current predictions are that 40% of restaurants may have to permanently close within 6 months. That’s a lot of jobs lost, and a lot less tables available in town when things do return to normal (as we hope they will someday!) All we ask is that you make a conscious effort to shop local, eat local, and help BCS businesses through this if you can.
