Achieving successful recovery following an addiction to drugs or alcohol requires a lot more than just completing a treatment program. To maintain recovery over the long haul, a lifetime of effort is required. Remember: There is no "cure" for addiction. And, addiction does not necessarily just stop once a treatment program has been completed. What is needed for long-term sobriety and recovery is a continued effort. Successful addiction recovery is an ongoing life journey that requires a lot more than just abstaining from drinking or doing drugs.
One of our favorite affirmations for those in recovery. If you're starting a new habit or revisiting an old goal, use this affirmation to get in alignment with your true potential. Today, I abandon my old habits and take up new, more positive ones. #recoveryaffirmations

The 12-Step model provides support, encouragement and accountability for people who genuinely want to overcome their addiction. Today is World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is ‘mental health for all’, which is especially prescient given the toll Covid-19 has had on all our lives. "The world is experiencing the unprecedented impact of the current global health emergency due to COVID-19 that has also impacted on the mental health of millions of people", says Dr. Ingrid Daniels, president of the World Federation for Mental Health. "We know that the levels of anxiety, fear, isolation, social distancing and restrictions, uncertainty and emotional distress experienced have become widespread as the world struggles to bring the virus under control and to find solutions. Dr. Daniels believes mental health is a human right, and that it is time for that mental health to be available for all. We 100% agree and have made it our mission to help as many people as possible. #worldmentalhealthday
The Twelve Steps are widely known, established and organized. (It's one of the oldest programs around.) The Steps are meant to be addressed in sequential order, but there's no one "right" way to approach them. Sometimes people need a break between Steps, sometimes people need to spend longer on one Step than another, some people never stop working the 12 Steps because they become part of life. This is part one of our new series: #The12Steps Step 1: We admitted we were powerless over our addiction - that our lives had become unmanageable.

Recent polls show that while most Americans remain at least somewhat hopeful about the future, hope is being tested. Suffering and division are ever-present, and there doesn't seem a clear path forward. But psychologists say hope is not a luxury. For mental health, it's a necessity. https://qoo.ly/38w33i #hope #mentalhealth USATODAY.COM Why it's so important to hope
According to AA, the 12 steps are a process that recovering alcoholics must follow to successfully achieve and maintain sobriety. Many of these steps mention God or a higher power, but they do not specifically apply to any single faith. Rather, they can be applied to any deity, or in the case of agnostics, the universe as a whole. Step 6: Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

Shared from IG Account: worrywellbeing You are not being selfish for being upset about all the awful things going on the world. It’s easy to dismiss our own worries and emotions because ‘others have it worse’ or because ‘there are people dying’. But what you are going through is valid. The impact that this pandemic is having on you is valid. You do not need to minimize your struggles just because other people are struggling too. Of course, we do have to remember to be grateful for all we have. But you can be grateful and struggling at the same time. You can acknowledge all you have whilst also recognizing your pain. Be gentle with yourself. Don’t dismiss what you are going through💞
