Did you know? When IMA was founded 60 years ago, our original mission was to provide medicines and medical supplies to our member organizations’ ministries around the world. Among these members was Lutheran World Relief — you can see our logos side by side in this photo from our archives. No one could have predicted that IMA and LWR would join forces in 2018 to form Corus International, launching a whole new era of holistic care for communities in need around the world. You can change the world from your kitchen table. This week, as we mark our 60th anniversary, we can’t help but honor Mrs. Bertha “Bert” Marker. In 1950, Bert began writing to pharmaceutical companies, asking them to donate medicine to mission hospitals around the world. Within a decade, Mrs. Marker’s letter-writing efforts became Interchurch Medical Assistance. In these 60 years, IMA has grown to touch the lives of more than 100 million people and distribute well over $1 billion in medicines and supplies to clinics around the world. For its first 34 years of service, IMA played a supporting role to our member organizations, providing medicines to support our members’ programs around the world. It wasn’t until 1994 that IMA began implementing programs of its own. Our first provided treatment to onchocerciasis or River Blindness in Tanzania. From there, our expertise and impact have only grown. As we look back on 60 years of service, learn more about this pivotal moment in IMA’s history here: https://loom.ly/CFejCPE
