You might not be making plans to go out for dinner and a movie with your date this #ValentinesDay, but there are plenty of fun ways to celebrate the holiday while staying safe and healthy at home!
This month is Black History Month and at Jefferson Center, we want to honor the incredible contributions that Black figures have made to the mental health field while also recognizing the vast historical differences in care that Black clients have experienced. It’s no secret that there is a gap in access to and quality of care in the mental health community and addressing these concerns remains a struggle. Additionally, the rates at which Black Americans report having a mental illness far exceed that of the general population, indicating a serious imbalance in treatment quality and availability based on bias. This February, on our social media, we will be focusing on examining concrete ways that Jefferson Center as well as the mental health field at large can work to address historical inequities and disparities. We will also be uplifting the work and voices of Black figures who have helped to make significant advancements in psychology as well as mental health activism to create a brighter future for all.
