Dr. Jeff Peterson is a world renowned Sports Medicine and Primary Care Physician practicing at Innovative Sports Medicine in San Francisco, California. In addition to providing sports medicine services to athletes of all abilities, Dr. Peterson also provides primary care services, annual exams, executive health services, concierge health packages, and innovative stem cell and platelet rich plasma treatments. Since 2001 he has worked as Clinical Faculty in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University Hospital in Stanford, California.
He received his B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and M.A. and M.D. from the Boston University School of Medicine. He completed a Surgical Internship, Emergency Medicine Residency, and Sports Medicine Fellowship at Stanford University Hospital. He also went through a Cardiovascular / Emergency Medicine Research Fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
Dr. Peterson has assisted in the medical care of several Bay Area Professional Sports Teams and numerous professional athletes over the past 20 years. In addition, he was honored to serve as physician for His Holiness the Dalai Lama for previous trips to San Francisco.
In 2004, he founded Innovative Sports Medicine, a private sports medicine practice, with an integrative medical approach in Mountain View, California. From 2006 to 2008 he served as the Race Physician and Medical Director for endurance races across the globe, from the Atacama desert of Chile, the Gobi desert in China, to the mountains of Sapa in Vietnam.
An avid triathlete, he has completed three Ironman triathlons and numerous Alcatraz triathlons. Dr. Peterson served as the lone physician for the movie Running the Sahara, where three extreme athletes endured grueling conditions while becoming the first runners to cross the Sahara Desert.
Dr. Peterson also makes several medical philanthropic efforts by frequently donating to charities such as One Heart World Wide, Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corps, and Hospital de la Familia. He also founded SaharaRelief, which is an international charitable organization committed to the delivery of essential healthcare to mothers and children in the Sahara desert region and Western Africa.
