WHAT MOVEMENT CAUSE KNEE PAIN? Knee Kinesiography evaluates the biomechanical movement of the knee. What does it mean? The movement of the knee, if misaligned with the other leg joint, will cause pain. That same movement can be the reason why osteoarthritis symptoms grow so fast. There are 6 biomechanical factors that are frequently observe. They are barely impossible to correctly assess with the naked eye, reason why Knee Kinesiography become useful. Prompt identification of the problematic movement allows the healthcare professional to correct this deviation more effectively. A few exercises and presto, your knee pain will be a thing of the past!

⚡ It’s innovation Friday! ⚡ Electronic Health Records (EHRs) It is hard to believe in such a modern era, but a mere decade ago, fewer than 18 percent of medical providers used electronic health records. In President George W. Bush’s State of the Union address in January 2004, he stated that “By computerizing health records, we can avoid dangerous medical mistakes, reduce costs and improve care.” This was by no means an exaggeration —in fact, it may not have been a strong enough statement. Prior to EHRs, paper charts led to inefficiencies, medical mistakes, and unnecessary hospitalizations because providers often were unaware of conflicting medications or previously diagnosed conditions. An Institute of Medicine report indicated that one in seven hospitalizations is a result of missing clinical information, a common issue with paper records. Today, nearly 80 percent of medical providers use EHRs —an important and dramatic jump from just 10 years ago. #KneeKG #KneeKinesiography #Innovation #MedicalTechnology #HealthSciences
⚡ It’s innovation Friday! ⚡ HIV Combined Drug Therapy In the 1980s and early 90s, contracting the HIV virus often resulted in a life expectancy of just a few months that consisted of multiple hospitalizations and the need for constant medical assistance. Just after the antiretroviral therapy (ART) was approved by the FDA in 1995, the mortality rate from HIV and related illnesses dropped by a whopping 83 percent. The therapy for those diagnosed with HIV/AIDS continues to evolve, many of which now actually help prevent transmission of the virus. Today, those diagnosed are expected live an additional 50 years or more than those stricken with the disease just a few years ago. #KneeKG #KneeKinesiography #Innovation #MedicalTechnology #HealthSciences

⚡ It’s innovation Friday! ⚡ Minimally Invasive Surgery Although the first experiments of examining a patient internally and performing procedures with minimal injury began in as far back as the time of Hippocrates and progressed with the invention of the Lichtleiter in the early 1800s, minimally invasive surgery evolved dramatically with the introduction of modern robotics in the operating room in 1994. Since then, procedures that had once been incredibly invasive that required long hospital stays and longer recovery time are now done with minimally invasive surgeries on an outpatient basis. Today, healthcare consumers can choose to have several different surgical procedures performed as either robotic surgery or endoscopic (non-robotic) surgery, which result in much shorter recovery times, less pain and dramatically reduced scarring. # KneeKG #KneeKinesiography #Innovation #MedicalTechnology #HealthSciences

What do Bruny Surin and Luc Marangère have in common? Bruny Surin, Olympic champion in 1996 and Luc Marangère, avid runner, have several things in common. One of them is that their love of sports led them to visit a knee expert when their osteoarthritis prevented them from maintaining their active life. They both underwent a Knee Kinesiography to understand the causes of their knee pain and control the symptoms related to their osteoarthritis. They are now back to their active life without any pain. If it worked for Bruny Surin, why wouldn’t it work for you? Call us today to make an appointment
⚡ It’s Innovation Friday! ⚡ Dental Implants The history of dental implants, dates back to 2000 BC. Indeed, archaeologists discovered human remains, containing bamboo anchors used to affix missing teeth. The first metal tooth discovered, dates back to around 1000 BC, it was found on the body of what appears to have been an Egyptian king. However, it is difficult to say whether the tooth was there during his life or after his death, as the process of fixing it would have been very painful. In ancient history, many missing teeth were replaced by teeth from animals or other humans. As early as the 1800s, modern researchers attempted to create replacement teeth. It was widely considered a failure: the human body rejected the foreign body. In 1952, researchers basing themselves on a study related to bone healing made a major breakthrough. The first titanium implant was successfully implanted on a voluntary patient in 1965. Today, dental implants are 97% effective.

⚡ It’s Innovation Friday! ⚡ Syringes The need for a syringe-style instrument has existed since prehistoric times. According to research carried out by the Faculty of Medicine, at Paris Descartes University, hominids used their mouths to suck out infectious substances that came out of wounds, as well as to propel liquid into the body, through already existing "holes" (mouth, nose , wounds, etc.). In ancient times, the profession of “wound sucker” was born. However, these individuals often found themselves infected with the disease that they attempted to extract. The syringe of antiquity, however, has survived until modern times: it is the enema purse. Composed of an animal bladder and a natural hose (eg a bird's feather), the instrument was used to send fluids into the body with more force. This invention appears in the book written by Hippocrates, father of modern medicine. However, the first piston syringes appeared simultaneously, in 284 BC, but were used exclusively in hydraulic systems.
Which jobs are hardest on the knees? 🛠️ Researchers from the University of Sydney, University of Oxford and University of Southampton found the following: - Carpenters, bricklayers and floor installers have three times the risk to develop knee arthritis. - Agricultural workers increase their risk by 64%, followed by builders and construction workers at 63% - Housekeeping workers have the highest risk, at 93%, to develop knee osteoarthritis. The key to minimizing these odds is to keep your knees in good health, learn how your job can be done by putting less stress on your knees. To prevent knee osteoarthritis or to treat the real causes of your knee pain, go with a Knee Kinesiography with the KneeKG! ⚡ It’s Innovation Friday! ⚡ Ocular Prostheses The use of the first ocular prostheses date back to Ambroise Paré, in 1579. Up until the 18th century, the use of ocular prostheses was poorly documented. Charlatans mutilated their patient by trying to make them an artificial eye. In 1818, the "Treaty of the Artificial Eye", was written by Charles-François Hazard and Hazard Hérault, talented glassblowers. For 100 years, glass eyes were used everywhere, especially in Europe. By the 1950s, the resin eye gradually replaced the glass eye, as a preferred material. Its consistent composition is more suitable for children, for whom the ocular prosthesis also plays a role on the symmetry of the face during growth and therefore requires a more reliable eye.
“Throughout my entire life, I have been active with sports and running. One morning in 2014 while playing soccer, I began to experience quite a bit of pain in both knees. I did physical therapy for three weeks, but it did not alleviate the pain. I went back to see my doctor and he suggested that I get a knee kinesiography. This is how my story with KneeKG began.” – Bruny A few years later, Bruny no longer feels any pain in his knees. A recent evaluation of his knees with the KneeKG shows that the problematic alignment of his knees, which was causing him pain, has now been corrected. Do like Bruny and regain control of your knees.

FRIDAY FOCUS The knee is the largest and strongest joint in your body. It is made up of the lower end of the femur (thighbone), the upper end of the tibia (shinbone), and the patella (kneecap). The ends of the three bones where they touch are covered with articular cartilage, a smooth, slippery substance that protects and cushions the bones as you bend and straighten your knee. That is why it is really important to take care of your knees and help them grow old in good shape. #healthyknees #funfact

Did you know that our knees were the reason we could stand upright? According to Craig Stanford, Californian anthropologist, there is 250 species of primate and the only one that can easily stand on only 2 legs are…the humans. For chimp, that are also able to stand straight, the muscular charge of supporting their body weight is too important when there standing on two legs, which leads them to go back on four leg again. The reason we can easily go around walking on two feet is because of our knees, that are able to « lock » fully extends. That way, the muscular charge is not too important on our quadricep and we can walk around on only two legs.

Injuries can also develop over time as repetitive stress damages the cartilage and other soft tissues in the knee. While reducing activities may help alleviate the pain of overuse injury, make sure to seek the help of a physiotherapist if you're experiencing acute pain (and ask about KneeKG)! #KneePain #KneeKG #Injury #Activities #Physiotherapy

To function, the knees rely on ten muscles -- the four muscles that make up the quadricep, the three muscles that make up the hamstrings, the hip abductors, the glutealmuscles, and the calf muscles. All of these muscles work together to stabilize the knee joint. Strengthening these muscles can lessen the impact of body stress on the knee joint. However, depending on the alignment of the joint, each individual’s strengthening needs may vary. There is no one-size-fits-all solution!

Did you know that ostrich have 2 kneecaps? The ostrich is quite a unique animal. It is the largest bird, but unlike other birds, the ostrich does not fly and runs very fast. Another difference between the ostrich and other animals is that this bird has two kneecaps, positioned one above the other. The upper patella allows the ostrich to extend its knee more quickly. It decreases the leverage effect of the muscles involved in extending the leg, which is the opposite effect to the kneecap in species with only one kneecap. For the second patella, researchers have not yet established what the exact use would be. The hypothesis shared so far is that this kneecap would protect the tendons.
