The Health Information Technician is responsible for collecting, capturing, analyzing, distributing and protecting health information to provide quality patient care. In order to provide the best patient care one must be able to process high volumes of data with great accuracy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Sort, classify, and verify all documents are processed per established guidelines Administer records management processes per file structure, naming conventions according to established guidelines Perform quality assurance checks on documents imaged into the EHR Transfer healthcare information in paper format to electronic format Process documents received by electronic fax in accordance with procedure guidelines Organize and maintain data for clinical databases and registries Scan new patient records in accordance to the guidelines Analyze new patient records to determine if the patients meet criteria to become registry patients Preload new and returning patient’s records; analyze and extract specific information from the records to be put into structured fields within the electronic health record Analyze provider’s schedules to ensure that CDSS protocol standards are met. Request any of the necessary documentation from the CDSS protocol list.
