Retired K-9 Grizzly is having emergency surgery tonight & we need your help to get him through this crisis. He was rushed to the vet after falling ill and it was discovered that he has a mass in his abdomen. Update: the surgery was successful & K-9 Grizzly woke up this morning feeling good enough to be able to go home to his family this afternoon. They did a biopsy & will have the results next week. In the meantime, as it was major abdominal surgery he will need to chill out & get some R&R to recover well.
K-9 Grizzly served faithfully for many years with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office & just retired in February. When K-9s retire the responsibility for their care falls to their handler & family so funds are being raised to help offset these costs.
Retired K-9 Grizzly is an 8 year old Dutch Shepherd with an outgoing personality & an abundance of energy. He has a penchant for hamburgers so let's help him recover & have a big burger soon.

Percy underwent surgery with our board certified surgeon Dr. Wignall for a Cricopharyngeal Myectomy. During the surgery Dr. Wignall removed part of a muscle that was contracting abnormally and preventing Percy from swallowing whenever he tried to eat. We are happy to report that Percy is improving each day.

Santa Clause brought Kona Orthopedic surgery this year.
Dr.Wignall performed a Bi-lateral TPLO, in which he corrects the stifle ligament on each of her hind limbs. Kona has a long recovery ahead of her, however she is doing great so far. She spent last night with us & is now at home just in time for the holidays with her family.

Radiographs showed a intestinal foreign body. He had a smooth surgery by Dr. John Haburjak our board certified Surgeon to remove a small rubber ball. He is doing great at home with his family recovering.

It is with a very heavy heart than I must share that yesterday, we said goodbye to our baby girl, Tommy. We had an amazing 17+ years together, including nearly 2.5 years following her diagnosis of lymphoma. Special thanks to Dr. Kim and the incredible staff at IronHorse VetCare for giving us so much quality time together, demonstrating tremendous expertise and compassion, caring for Tommy as well as many phone calls from occasionally panicked pet parents.
Over the past year, Tommy truly thrived in her role as work-from-home supervisor, and realized how much she could get away with in this new “job.” We also recognize how much we put her through, as she was our baby since she was about 8 weeks old, joining Michelle and me after only about 3 months of us living together. Tommy tolerated many drives from North Carolina to Pennsylvania for holidays, and in 2010, lived through our big move to California.
Dr. Kim from Iron Horse Vetcare summed her up perfectly in an email she shared with us today; Tommy was “sweet but spicy.” For those of you that got to know her, she maintained a high bar for her friendship. She truly loved Michelle, loved me, and then there was a pretty steep drop off for the rest of humanity, who she really made work for her affection.
She loved her ribbon toys, her tunnel runnings, finding the best spot for a nap on every bed in the house or her towers, and was never shy about requesting a drink from the various special “water fountains.” Despite her tough earned affection, she was the therapist and comforter for both me and Michelle for the entirety of our marriage through yesterday. Tommy was always available for a snuggle, an occasional stern meow, or when I was having trouble sleeping, she was always there between our pillows to be my soft, furry strength and comfort no matter what was happening in life.
I hope that we were able to provide her a life that she wanted, full of treats, toys, lookin’ windows, soft warm places to nap, and most of all, love. I hope that she is now able to join her brother Hines in peace after he left our family exactly 3 years ago tonight. I am grateful for so many friends who know how meaningful fur babies are to our lives. And despite her "spiciness," I’m glad we were able to share her with so many others. We’ll miss you, princess.

Our dog fell ill last November and it was right before Thanksgiving .....I am so sorry I didn’t put this out there sooner ...he was very sick really an undiagnosed problem with his g I tract . They were amazing with him , they searched for all kinds of possible problems thus eliminating terrible things . He stayed 24 hrs. Was given fluids , and ultra sounds and medication . He recovered fully after about ten days . Thank you so much to all the staff and Dr.s We will always know where to go in an emergency. ❤️

Meet our Board Certified Criticalist.
Dr. Rebecca Rader grew up in Illinois and graduated from University of Illinois Veterinary School in 2006. She then completed a 1 year general, rotating internship at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in San Leandro. Her residency program in emergency and critical care took her to Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in Rhode Island for 4 years, but her love for the Bay Area brought her back to California in 2011 after the completion of her residency.
Dr. Rader is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care. Her professional interests include trauma, geriatric medicine and pain management. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, live music, and spending time with her friends and family, which includes two dogs named Cardi Chi and Chacho. They have their own stroller and accompany her almost everywhere.

Our dog fell ill last November and it was right before Thanksgiving .....I am so sorry I didn’t put this out there sooner ...he was very sick really an undiagnosed problem with his g I tract . They were amazing with him , they searched for all kinds of possible problems thus eliminating terrible things . He stayed 24 hrs. Was given fluids , and ultra sounds and medication . He recovered fully after about ten days . Thank you so much to all the staff and Dr.s We will always know where to go in an emergency. ❤️
Our hospital supports a variety of nonprofits not only for pets but also for the food banks etc.
Please welcome Toby who was transported all the way from Sayulita Mexico. He’s flown and driven many miles and will be in the expert hands of the volunteers at Bay Area German Shepherd Rescue.
His had a rough beginning but will now have the opportunity to thrive.

Our friend Sandy came to us with a right humeral condylar fracture (also know as an elbow fracture).
This little sweetheart had her elbow repaired yesterday by one of our Board-Certified Surgery Specialist, Dr. Haburjack!
Sandy stayed with us for post operative care and went home that night to her parents!
Thank you to Sandy’s family for entrusting us for her care.
