When Dr. Mike Zinzilieta completed medical school and his OB/GYN training at SIU School of Medicine, he was determined to stay in Springfield because he thought it would be a good place to raise a family. He was right. He and his wife, Jill, are the proud parents of two daughters, Sarah and Alyse, and grandparents of two. In 1982, he joined The Medical Group, where he practiced for three years prior to joining Springfield Clinic. "I was so impressed with Springfield Clinic. I wanted to be part of its growth and success," said Dr. Zinzilieta. "The doctors' commitment to quality care and clinical excellence aligned perfectly with my philosophy of care." His passion for and dedication to quality medical care not only earned him the reputation as an outstanding clinician, but further propelled him into various leadership roles at Springfield Clinic. Throughout the past thirty years, he has played an active role on the Quality Management & Peer Review Committee and the Ambulatory Surgery Committee. He has also served as the chairman of the OB/GYN Department and was named the recipient of Springfield Clinic's prestigious A. Raymond Eveloff Award for Clinical Excellence in 2012. For six years, Dr. Zinzilieta served as Springfield Clinic's Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in which he represented Springfield Clinic's medical interests, guided the organization's overall clinical direction and worked collaboratively with a team of medical directors who help oversee all aspects of clinical care, quality and physician relations.
