In a company, if you change the structure, you change the culture. Structure defines and refines. Culture detects and reflects. goj2.com/structure-over-culture/
Competition is like a crow. You are the eagle. Think of your competitive advantage as the meal you just caught. Crows try to steal fresh-caught prey from eagles, but the eagle doesn't mind. He soars to greater heights! The crows are unable to breathe at such great heights so they fall away. goj2.com/shrug-off-the-crows/
Do you like startups? Pitching? Technology? We do. TechCrunch Disrupt 2020 is going on right now. Its a conference for emerging tech and startups. They have a big pitch contest called Startup Battlefield. Companies pitch for six minutes then go through a Q&A for six minutes. 20 startups have been selected to participate and they are all competing for a chance to win $100,000 in equity-free prize money and the attention of many tier 1 investors, not to mention all of the global press they will receive. Five startups have been pitching every day since Monday with Jefa, Touchwood Labs, Rally.video, Luther AI, Kiri pitching today. On Friday, selected companies will enter the finals. The startups involved are all very cool and we can’t wait to see who will win the competition! We’re hiring a designer! Watch the video for all the deets. Quick and dirty version - send all your info to work@goj2.com This video first aired on Linkedin, but we wanted to open it up to our Facebook network as well!
Today we are saying goodbye to one of the best. We will miss you so much Melanie Woodruff, but we are so excited to see what your future holds. We wish you all the best in your future endeavors. You will always have a home here at J2 Marketing. Mel made a video of herself reading her poem, we’ll post it on our story if you would like to see it!
Meet Fadhel! ⭐ FDL (his super cool nickname) joins us as an additional web dev (since Cody's so busy!). We are super excited to have him on our team. He works remotely from all the way in Tunisia! He enjoys reading, cooking sweet stuff, and biking in the mountains. Sometimes he forgets his first language because he uses English so much, which makes for some interesting conversations. We hope one day we can take a J2 trip to FDL's office!
Did you catch yesterday's J2DAY post? Now that you have had some time to reflect on it, what are some of your rituals and routines at work, with customers, for yourself? How do they help slow you down or keep you moving? If you're not sure what we're talking about, here's Rituals Vs. Routines for a little refresher: goj2.com/rituals-vs-routines/
We're kicking off Fall with team spotlights! Each week we are going to highlight a different team member here at J2. This week's spotlight is on Hugh, our resident fire starter and principal here at J2! Hugh is responsible for lighting a fire under the rest of us. He's a dreamer, a motivator, and great coworker. He enjoys starting the day by blasting the greatest showman movie soundtrack. Happy Hugh week! These graphics were specially created by our former designer, Melanie. Each graphic is made from the team member's favorite things. For Hugh, his favorite color is red and he resonates with the phrase, "I am facinated!"
How do you make your personal brand stand out? The makers of Grey Goose Vodka knew that they had hundreds competitors, so they had to work hard to differentiate their brand of vodka. They focused on their ingredients, packaging, and pricing to position themselves favorably and create a cult following for their vodka. Ordering Grey Goose is not about the taste-- it's about identity. https://loom.ly/NgttDQM
Whenever you find yourself in a new environment, it can be scary. The fear of the unknown kicks in. How can you make the most of an opportunity when you're analyzing your fear? Slow down, ask yourself these questions, then start answering them. Situational Awareness: goj2.com/situational-awareness/
Looking for a sign to give your LinkedIn profile some love? This is that sign. Check out today's J2DAY post "LinkedIn Checklist" to get some tips that will get you moving in the right direction. goj2.com/linkedin-checklist/
This week's Team Spotlight is on Bre! She is our Director of Content Creation. She's responsible for copywriting, social media, and a little bit of the graphic design you see coming from J2. Her favorite words are star, glisten, and vendetta. She just likes the way they sound. Bre's favorite color is also muted green. Happy Bre week!
Where do you stream your music from? How many options for their service are there? What if there was a $100 a month option that also got you a special piece of music memorabilia every month? Maybe you wouldn't want to pay $100 per month, but maybe others would. Sometimes we build for the masses and sometimes it pays to focus on the few. GoJ2.com/streaming-profiles/
We absolutely love working with Ancilla College and meeting their needs in a positive and "unexpected" way. Thank you for giving us the opportunity Ancilla!
This week's team member spotlight is on Michelle, our Office Hero! M is responsible for keeping us all together and on track. Without her we would literally be lost. She keeps track of all of the schedules, the health of the office, and anything in between. She always makes sure we have snacks to keep us going too and we couldn't thank her enough for everything she does! Also... she may or may not have a birthday coming up this week 🎈 M's favorite color is yellow and the theme song for her life would be Pink Cadillac. When asked what her favorite words are, she listed the names of her children, Erin, Addie, and Kal. Happy M week!
White space in design serves a very important purpose. It is used to declutter, simplify, and even add a sense of calm to a composition. White space is like free time. Don't clutter up your day! Leave some white space for spontaneous plans, left over tasks, or even just for yourself. Enjoy the white space. Goj2.com/white-space
This week's team member spotlight is on Reed! ⭐ Reed is our project manager! He stays on top of everything happening here at J2 and he keeps us moving. He's great at sparking creativity and also playing Devil's advocate to help us make the best decisions. He is also good at every game we play in the office too, so beware if you challenge him to a duel on Hearthstone! Reed's favorite color is a mix between gray and blue. His favorite cereal is soup (This ruffled a lot of feathers in the office!) and the theme song for his life is The Bridge of Khazad Dum. Happy Reed week!
Here at J2 Marketing, we work hard to deliver amazing results for our clients, but it's not all about work. We believe it's important to stretch your creative muscles and push yourself to try new things. Take a look at some of the cool art Mitch, our Director of Studio Production, has been working on in his free time.
This week's team spotlight is on Erik! 💡 Erik is our fearless leader and a serial entrepreneur! Here at J2 he makes sure everything is running smoothly on the business side of things and he helps out whenever and wherever he can. If you have an idea and you need some great feedback, Erik is the guy to go to! Erik's Favorite color is black, hence the black shirt and the black brick wall exterior of J2! His favorite shape is kaleidoscope (although we aren't sure if that's a shape) and the theme song for his life would be "Don't Worry Be Happy". Happy Erik week!
Have you ever received a faceless comment that criticized you or your work? Don't let it get to you. What you're doing might not be for them. goj2.com/anonymity/
This week's Team Spotlight is on Ben! He is our Customer Experience Specialist, which means he makes sure our clients are well taken care of. He also writes phenomenal posts for J2DAY and keeps us thinking with "Ben's Marketing Moment", a segment in our weekly meetings where he brings us new and/or interesting marketing topics to think over and learn about. Ben's favorite color is green and the words he selected for his background are grumption, skronk, and the (he thinks they sound interesting, and we agree!) Happy Ben Week!
J2TORIALS are WORKSHOPS. They aren’t webinars. They aren’t meetings. They aren’t lectures. People learn and create with us. We get you to think outside of the box and approach topics in a new way. Stay tuned for our next J2TORIAL and come create and destroy with us.
Check out our February P/review! This is a new segment bringing you an overview and a review of all things J2! Watch the video below to get up to speed on the cool things we are creating. Let us know your thoughts!
They’re fairly straightforward. The “Remembering Self” is what we recall after the event/moment. The “Experiencing Self” is how we feel during the event/moment. Which is weightier? And can they even be separated? Should we focus on creating something meaningful in the moment? Or something lasting that will stick with people? goj2.com/remembering-self-vs-experiencing-self/ #Marketing #J2DAY
Check out our new podcast! It goes along with our J2DAY posts and expands on the ideology in them. In this first one, Ben speaks on the gap between digital and personal, why we feel pain when someone else is experiencing it, how knowledge can prevent us from communicating effectively, why the middle one is typically the best option, and how our expectations shape our experience. So tune in and let us know your thoughts! To listen on Spotify: https://loom.ly/Z-N3WnE
Another thought provoking piece from our Director of J2 Studios! We definitely had to Google if horned owls exist.
It's impossible to have all of the information in front of you. The best you can do is make the best decision with the information that is available to you. Learn from the outcome. How much of it was in your control and how much was just luck? Then play the next hand. goj2.com/playing-the-hand-youre-dealt/
Learning most things will follow a similar pattern, we can substitute ‘game’ for ‘skill’. This is only the beginning though. When learning and climbing to the expert level of anything, we know there are many steps that come after Step 5. To learn what those steps may be, or to just double check you're on the right path, check out "Learning To Play A Game" on J2DAY. GoJ2.com/Learning-to-Play-a-Game
