UPDATE: Multiple fire departments remain on the scene of the fire at the Hibbing Moose Event Center. The blaze was reported around 10:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Howard Street. Hibbing firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions on the second floor. The decision was made by Hibbing Fire Chief Erik Jankila to transition to a defensive attack. The Virginia and Hibbing fire departments used aerial ladder trucks on the massive blaze while the Grand Rapids Fire Department also brought a ladder truck in case the fire spread to adjacent buildings. There have been no reports of injuries. Some of the departments dispatched to the scene included: Hibbing, Keewatin, Chisholm, Virginia, Nashwauk, Greenway. Cherry, Grand Rapids,Trout Lake, and Fayal Township. The Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in investigating the cause of the massive blaze.
