Deb’s boyfriend is named Andrew. When Andrew and his brother John were kids, they planted a tree in the backyard with their Dad. Years later, when their Dad died, that southside Chicago home was sold to new owners, and life went on. Fast-forward, Deb and Andrew are dating, Deb learns about the significance of Andrews’ childhood tree in Chicago…and decides to find it. Devastatingly, she learns the tree had been cut down. But undaunted, she still decided to write a letter to the unknown owners asking permission to visit the property and see if perhaps a stump was still buried in the backyard. Incredibly, the owners agreed, prompting a hopeful Deb and two friends to fly to Chicago, with a saw in their luggage, to dig up the backyard at Andrew’s childhood home, looking for a piece of wood from the tree stump that Deb could have our repair shop turn into a set of custom cufflinks for Andrew and his brother.
As you can see from the photos, they were successful. 🙂

Tami says, “Carrie brought us this beautiful ring to get it fixed up. It was around 30 years old, and a gift for her mother from her father. So it’s super important! But… it was in pretty bad shape. The ring was bent out-of-round with a thin shank, missing a diamond, prongs were worn away, and a ruby was damaged. After the years of love, it wasn't surprising to see this happening! Once we identified what was needed to get it back in shape, our goldsmith got to work! First step was rounding out the ring. Then we replaced the thin half shank with a new stronger shank, replaced the missing diamond, and replaced the damaged ruby. Prong work was then needed to secure these new stones in place, and then after adding some final polishing and cleaning, the magic was done! Carrie was so thrilled with the results, she couldn't wait to take it back to her mother!”

Tami says, “Awhile back, Kim brought in her daughter's ring that was purchased in Italy while she was studying abroad. In addition to the ring being pretty bent up, the beautiful cameo had also fallen out of the bezel. Thank goodness it didn’t get lost! Overall the ring was thin, but strengthening that bezel was our most important task. So we did! Once we found a bezel we liked, we removed the original, and soldered the new one into place. Lastly, we reset the cameo, and re-rounded & polished-up the ring. Now that it’s done, that incredible cameo should be safe and secure for the long haul.” 🙂
