Let’s say you can back squat and deadlift the same weight as each other... continuing to train both the hinge and squat pattern the same may lead to aches, pains and further imbalances, not to mention a loss of performance.
Are these laws set in stone? Obviously not! It does provide some insight to how your body is moving and how it can move more efficiently!

We believe in training intentionally.
The workout should match your goals.
For example:
Build power with intensity.
Build durability with tempo.
Build skill with practice.
Build opportunity with movement.
Build resiliency with recovery.
If you have aches and pains in the gym, it’s likely because you are misusing one or more of those. If your goal is to feel better, consider the following:
Too much high intensity (for time or for reps workouts more than 2x/week) can lead to tendon breakdown due to lack of opportunity for eccentrics to rebuild tendon health.
10%-20% minimum of your training should be done with intentional tempo for tendon health.
You need to build skill before you add weight or speed to movements. Many injuries happen because people learn new movements in short time frames, and then they add speed, and weight - bad idea. PRACTICE!
Intentional movement should be a part of your programming. Try new things and explore movements to competency and then move on. Without experimentation, your variation becomes predictable and overtraining can become a problem.
For every 5 normal workouts add in 1 active recovery day. And give yourself a full rest day every week. On your rest day, do nothing.

For every one rep you can deadlift 100lbs you should be able to:
Back-squat 80lbs
1 arm carry 50lbs for 10 meters
Let’s say you can back squat and deadlift the same weight as each other... continuing to train both the hinge and squat pattern the same may lead to aches, pains and further imbalances, not to mention a loss of performance.
Are these laws set in stone? Obviously not! It does provide some insight to how your body is moving and how it can move more efficiently!
We want to make sure we take your abilities, strengths and weaknesses into account when creating a program. This is why we start with an assessment.

We live by the motto “assess don’t guess”.
When you come to work with us you’ll start with a comprehensive movement screen. This helps us better understand the way you move and the ways you may compensate in your movement.
A simple example is how shoulder pain might actually be an ankle problem, but we don’t know unless we assess
There are multiple ways the ankles can affect the shoulders. This post is not comprehensive. It’s a simple example of compensation patterns especially for people participating in things like snatches or overhead squats.
When you snatch, and when you overhead squat, your ankle limitation causes your chest to dive forward.
You have been told “chest up!” too many times, you know you’re supposed to get your chest up, but your ankles don’t let you stay vertical.
When your chest is diving forward, your shoulders are forced to endure end ranges of motion under load for extended time.
You stand up and your shoulders are sore (especially the front and the top of them).
You feel like if your shoulders were more flexible you would be able to do whatever you wanted without pain.
You roll, you band, you warm up, you stretch, you do it all, and nothing works.
You probably don’t have a shoulder problem, it’s likely an ankle problem. Assessing your movement is the best way to make sure.

Let’s define high intensity as any workout done with the intent being; as fast as possible, as many reps as possible, as much weight as possible.
If you are going “all out” you are training at high intensity.
A great way to regulate your intensity and intentionally leave some in the tank is by nasal breathing.
Nasal breathing will reduce the likelihood that you bury yourself neurologically from high intensity training.
Go ahead, give it your all 2x/week, the rest of the week, focus on your quality of movement, build new skills, play, have fun.

We love challenging ourselves. We love trying new movements. We love to push the limits. There is value in learning new skills and gaining confidence in our body and its ability to adapt, change, and overcome.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One important thing to remember is that If you are training for health and longevity there are some movements that aren’t necessarily worth doing. Some quick examples would be GHD sit ups, high volume burpees, or handstand push ups.
If you want to do them because you enjoy them, that’s great! But if you’re doing them to get to the goal of health, there are better ways to get there.
Training for competition and training for health are two different things. There’s overlap, but not all exercises that are useful for competition are worth doing to reach health goals.
Keep the end goal in mind...
Training for health isn’t a lesser version of training for competition. They are two different things!
