Dr. Van Doren is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He graduated summa cum laude from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas(1994), and earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City (1999). He completed his psychiatric residency at the University of Arizona Department of Psychiatry (2003). While there, he served one year as chief resident.
Since 2001, Dr. Van Doren has dedicated his career to practicing psychiatry and has held various positions in community clinics, residential chemical dependency programs and inpatient hospitals, including medical director at Hays Medical Center’s 15-bed inpatient geriatric psychiatry unit. He also helped to open the Wheatland campus of KVC Hospitals, where he was the chief psychiatrist for a 24-bed child and adolescent psychiatric hospital. Dr. Van Doren was in private practice in Tucson Arizona from 2003 until 2010. He has been an associate professor of psychiatry at both the University of Arizona and the University of Minnesota.
Dr. Van Doren integrates medication management and psychotherapy. He takes a holistic approach to understand and treat patients. He believes every patient has unique life experiences and an important story to tell. He strives to relieve mental anguish and help patients achieve their best quality of life.
