James B. Cordell, MD, has been serving the residents of La Jolla, San Diego, for over three decades as a primary care physician and travel health specialist. Dr. Cordell started his career at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1977, where he studied biochemistry. After graduating, he was accepted into the prestigious UCLA School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at the University of Utah Hospitals in 1984 and became board-certified one year later.
Today, Dr. Cordell heads a practice of medical professionals that focuses on establishing healthy habits to avoid chronic illnesses. Dr. Cordell works with a diverse group of adult patients, from age 15 to over 100, to manage diet, exercise, and lifestyle choices to promote overall wellness. As a primary care physician, Dr. Cordell handles most patient needs including wellness exams, screenings, and other preventive services, as well as diagnosing and treating chronic problems such as diabetes or hypertension.
Dr. Cordell is board-certified in internal medicine and maintains professional associations with the San Diego Physicians Medical Group, the Ximed Medical Group, and the American Medical Association. He's also available for travel medicine consultations working with World Health Organization guidelines to identify and prevent the spread of diseases that tend to strike travelers.
