#Landlords From the Martin County Board of Commissioners: Martin County adds residential landlord assistance to CARES Act funding programs In August, Martin County launched its comprehensive CARES Act funding programs designed to assist individuals, families and small businesses impacted by the Coronavirus pandemic. Today, the county is pleased to announce assistance for residential landlords. The Residential Landlord Assistance program, part of the Business Renewal Program, provides rent recovery grants to landlords with residential tenants who are behind in rent. Throughout the pandemic, landlords have been required to continue to pay mortgages, maintain properties and otherwise fulfill all of their lease obligations, while an executive order has prevented them from enforcing non-payment of rent. "This is a win-win situation for residents and business owners," said George Stokus, Assistant County Administrator, Martin County Board of County Commissioners. "With this program, we are able to keep local residents in their homes while providing reassurance and continuity to both landlord and tenant during this time of uncertainty," Mr. Stokus continued. Grants are available for owners of residential rental properties located in Martin County and may cover months from March 1, 2020 to the date of the application. The $20,000 maximum award per lease is based on eligible criteria and subject to funding availability.Multi-unit owners are encouraged to call the Business Renewal Center at 772-288-5951 prior to applying to ensure proper processing of additional applications for multiple units. For more detailed information, please visit www.martin.fl.us/LandlordAssistance. Additional programs utilizing federal CARES Act funds in Martin County are also available. The Business Renewal Program helps small businesses with $5 million or less in total gross sales or receipts with a maximum award of $20,000 per applicant, subject to funding availability.
