It’s Fitness Friday! 💪🏽💥 Cardio vs Weight Training. Which is better? Here are the facts:
✅ Calorie burn is higher in general if you are heavier and de-conditioned. The heavier you are the more calories you’ll burn during an exercise session. Point being do NOT be disappointed when you burn less calories as you get in better cardiovascular health!
✅ Focus on INTENSITY and EFFORT for each session regardless if its cardio or weight lifting. Don’t focus on the numbers if you’re wearing a tracker device. Put forth proper effort and the numbers will show up.
✅ Cardio might burn more calories but the more muscle you build weight training, the more calories you burn DAILY. You also build stronger bones! (Ladies!)
✅ Weight training is more effective than cardio at building muscle. Muscle burns more calories at rest.
Summary: You can’t do JUST ONE you must combine BOTH. If your goals are to build muscle, do that FIRST after a proper warm up if you’re combining with cardio and vice versa.
Example: Weight lift 4x a week add minimum 2x of solid cardio.
If your goal is to improve your cardiovascular health then flip the above schedule.

It’s FITNESS FRIDAY! 💪🏽💥 Here are my top 5 reasons why you should toss your scale in the TRASH 🗑‼️ I actually have more but...
Before we get to that list let me mention that if you do insist on weighing yourself, there is only 🌅👉🏽ONE TIME OF DAY👈🏽🌅 to do it for the most accurate weight. First thing in the morning, after you use the restroom, sans clothing. That is it. Too many variables otherwise (yes I think the Drs office should at least subtract 2 lbs for that very reason 😉)
On to the list...
5️⃣ INCHES MATTER MORE THAN LBS - Waist circumference is a prime indicator of health. A larger waistline is directly linked to health issues like type 2 diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Men should be under 40” women should be under 35”. 
4️⃣ WEIGHT ALONE IS A POOR INDICATOR OF HEALTH - “Skinny” doesn’t equal healthy! Get your annual bloodwork and physical done. Pick a date each year (like your birthday) to get all necessary check ups done based on your age.
3️⃣ SCALE DOESN’T TELL YOU ABOUT STRENGTH OR ENDURANCE - Can you run a mile? Can you climb a flight of stairs without getting winded? Balance? Agility? These are the things that matter most in healthy aging! #hearthealth #cardiovascularhealth When you have a “training regime” the lbs naturally come off.
2️⃣ IT CAN RUIN YOUR DAY - More often than not it leads to negative self-talk and unrealistic goals resembling a vow to eat less calories and add more exercise. We don’t “diet and exercise” we EAT and TRAIN! What are we training for? L I F E and everything it throws at us! Focus on upholding good habits not berating yourself for slip ups.
1️⃣ QUANTIFY THE HEALTHY HABITS YOU’RE ADDING NOT THE NUMBER ON THE SCALE - Lasting results take time! Start with a 4 WEEK PLAN/STRATEGY. Put it on a calendar and check it off each day. One day at a time. Consistency is vital. Workout days/rest days (I suggest 4:3 to start) Nutrition - Keep it clean. If you can’t pronounce the ingredients, don’t eat it. Drink 1 gallon of water daily (you won’t have room for anything else!) I like dry erase calendars to track my consistency.
