Blanchard Valley Health System recently initiated the distribution of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to frontline healthcare workers. Shown is Kimberly Geckle, APRN-CNP, an adult hospitalist, receiving her vaccine from Becky Cochran, employee health nurse. At this point, BVHS has only received 300 total doses for associates and distribution is based on a tiered approach developed by the Mayo Clinic. The first wave of vaccines is being given to associates who have roles that place them at the highest risk of COVID-19 exposure. Additional deliveries of the vaccine are expected in the immediate future. Community residents who are interested in getting a COVID-19 vaccine should work in conjunction with their primary care provider.
As the COVID-19 vaccine is distributed to those who want it, there may be remaining questions about the research and safety of some women receiving it. Miguel Jordan, MD, addresses these concerns in his “Weekend Doctor Column,” found at bit.ly/3q39bA9.

BVHS President and CEO Myron Lewis and Dr. William Kose, vice president of special projects and Karim Baroudi, Hancock County health commissioner discuss the organization’s planning of operations and processes that will ensure the safety and care of patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A message from new President & CEO Myron Lewis
BVHS is working in collaboration with Hancock Public Health and the City of Findlay- Mayor's Office to initiate COVID-19 vaccine clinics across our community. At this time, scheduling for the different age groups is taking longer than anticipated. This is due to the limited number of vaccine doses that HPH is receiving on a weekly basis. We respectfully request that community members remain patient.
Additionally, do not sign-up for multiple vaccine clinic locations and do not register for time slots outside of your age category. These types of issues are causing the vaccine clinic process to slow even further. Please visit bvhsvaccineconnect.com to learn more about registering for the vaccine clinics in your county of residence.
Additional communication on vaccine clinic locations, dates and times will be released once they have been scheduled. Thank you for your understanding as we attempt to protect our community from COVID-19!

One common question we often receive regarding the COVID-19 vaccine is "what are the side effects?" There are several potential side effects, including pain, redness or swelling at the injection site, fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills and joint pain.
These side effects occur due to the immune system's response to the vaccine and are considered normal. They can last between one and three days after vaccination. For more information about the COVID-19 vaccine including information about how to sign up and frequently asked questions, visit bvhsvaccineconnect.com.
