Our patient Santiago is celebrating a big milestone - he's completed his last chemotherapy treatment. Our paw-some volunteer and facility pet therapy dogs celebrated the #DogDaysofSummer! With help from our Child Life and Volunteer Services teams, our patients enjoyed a full day of activities honoring our four-legged friends and all they do through our PetSmart Charities Pet‑Assisted Therapy Dog program. Doggie-bags filled with crafts, treats and activities were delivered to each patient room. We even had more than 30 cardboard cut-outs of our volunteer and facility dogs placed throughout our Dallas campus. Thank you to our teams and pups for bringing the paw-sitivity! 🐾

Now and then, Abby has overcome significant challenges since she left our Heart Center nearly 4 years ago. Diagnosed with a condition called cardiomyopathy, Abby had open-heart surgery to place a ventricular assist device (VAD) that helps her heart pump blood throughout her body. Our team taught her about how the VAD device works and the importance it plays in keeping her healthy. Abby says she wouldn't trade her experience for anything. She wants to become a transplant coordinator when she's older to use her experiences to support other kids through similar journeys like hers.
