No matter the situation, make sure your decisions are based on what is best for your child/children!

Setting Boundaries might be the most important and healthiest thing you can do for your children!
Give yourself permission to choose happiness!
A toxic environment does nothing but create more toxicity for both the children and the other parent.
Structure and Expectations are both an important part of the process for raising healthy children in a post divorce/seperation environment.
Regardless of what your family dynamic looks like its important to remember that there are resources out there to help you and your children cope and thrive through many of life's challenges. Children's well being should always take priority and we are seeing that play out daily throughout this pandemic. https://www.smartstart.org/smart-start-launches-statewide-initiatives-to-support-children-and-families-affected-by-covid-19-pandemic/ SMARTSTART.ORG Smart Start Launches Statewide Initiatives to Support Children and Families Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic | Smart Start & The North Carolina Partnership for Children

Over the last 8 weeks we went through 8 things you can do to strengthen your Co-Parenting Skills. Effective Tuesday, November 17, 2020, Specific District Court Civil courtrooms in the Wake County Courthouse will be temporarily closed until further notice. You can read about all closing and adjustments in the attached document sent out from the district court. https://www.nccourts.gov/assets/inline-files/Wake-10th-JD-Civil-Court-Operations-11-16-2020.pdf?PjB4PZ39T2jL2zRifDtiN1odWmvUCaC2 NCCOURTS.GOV www.nccourts.gov
We start our list of what not to do when your focus is to strengthen your co-parenting skills with a simple reminder to not jump to conclusions. Unlike most people who play a game of presumptions you know the prologue of the other party so it is easy to write out the story according to past mistakes or behavior. This ones hard and we get it but you have to focus on the facts and give the other party the benefit of the doubt that much like anything worth working towards this is a goal they share and have to adjust to as well.
Happy Thanksgiving from Jerkins Family Law! We are thankful for all of you! Tell us what you are thankful for today 😍

Try your best to encourage healthy relationships with the other parent rather than trying to sabotage it!
Happy December everyone!
Co-parenting is not about winners and losers in fact when all parties share the same goal everyone wins, when one or two partied fights against the goals everyone loses especially the children involved.
Let your children be children, there is no need to expose them to your thoughts and emotions regarding the other parent.
The Holidays can be the most anticipated part of the year, but they can also be hard and stressful -- especially in a blended family or co-parenting situation. Jerkins Family Law will be sharing tips to survive this season every day between now and Christmas to help keep you stress-free this Holiday season!
Using your children as a weapon against the other parent will only cause harm to your children and can be the cause or irreversible trauma.
North Carolina Courts will postpone non-essential, in-person court proceedings for 30 days beginning December 14. NCCOURTS.GOV Chief Justice Announces Postponement of Many Court Proceedings for 30 Days | North Carolina Judicial Branch
Embrace the change!
With Christmas this week its a great time to wrap up our list. It is really easy to spoil our children especially during this time of year, however don't do so at the expense of trying to gain favor over your children.

Whether this christmas is your first as a single parent or as a new blended family it is important to remember the traditions you once had and create new traditions and new memories with your family no matter what it looks like now!
What are your thoughts on doing things as co-parents around the holidays?
If your order has you splitting time it is important that you follow it and not be vocal about any inconveniences it might cause in front of your children.
Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
Whether its on zoom or with the families that you live with its an important time of year for children to know how loved they are so its important that you encourage the inclusion of all family members. With a pandemic it's understandable that certain precautions should be made and however you go about it we know you'll find the right way to spread the christmas cheer!
Make every moment a moment to cherish and remember forever!
With the chance of winter weather coming today we want to hear your favorite winter activities.

Sometimes the best way to get something out is to write it down. Is there something you never got the chance to say? Something you never had the courage to say? Write a letter to that person, get it all out on paper with ink. Afterwards, give yourself some time before you reread what you have wrote. Really think about what you needed to say, and then -- discard of the letter as a symbolic way to let those feelings go.
