About

With the COVID-19 landscape quickly changing, JFCS is taking actions based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS). JFCS has already eliminated non-essential activities at our healthcare centers and program sites. In addition, we are complying with CDC best practice recommendations to ensure a safe and sanitized environment at all locations.

Over the past few months we have had to adapt too many changes in our society, but one thing that hasn’t changed is those in need. As we begin preparing to celebrate the High Holidays and Sukkot we reflect on tzedakah, the obligation to provide for those less fortunate. We are blessed with plenty of food to sustain us, let us remember those in need of nourishment. We invite you to join Jewish Family & Children’s Service in the collection of non-perishable food for our “Just 3 Things” High Holiday Food Drive, benefiting JFCS clients, including youth aging out of the foster care system as well as vulnerable individuals and families served by JFCS. Meet Miranda (DV Survivor), she experienced emotional, psychological, financial, physical and sexual abuse. Her former spouse would call her names, belittle her and slowly isolated her from friends and family, demanding she focus all her time and energy on him so he would know he mattered most to her, so their marriage could be ideal. But, he wasn't always controlling, he still would profess his love and do nice things once in a while. So, Miranda never thought of it as #domesticviolence until things progressively got worst. If you or someone you know is in need of safety planning, resources, lay legal advocacy or support please call our Shelter Without Walls Program: (602) 452-4640 OR (602) 534-3087 (Spanish) All cases are handled in the strictest confidence. Miranda focused all her time and energy on her former spouse so he would know he mattered most to her, so their marriage could be ideal. It wasn’t enough. He was jealous of the dogs and started to threaten hers, and let his Pit Bull do whatever he wanted. Things continued to escalate and the physical and sexual abuse began. Our JFCS Volunteers are working hard to help our older adults, seniors, and Holocaust Survivors obtain the COVID-19 vaccination! Thank you to our JFCS team - Kathy Rood, Lisa Blumstein and our amazing volunteers for their dedication to our community! #HealingLives #WhateveritTakes
With COVID-19 vaccinations underway many holocaust survivors were struggling to navigate and book online appointments. As a community we came together to assist those who needed our services. Together, the partnership of the #PhoenixHolocaustAssociation, JFCS, and ADHS has scheduled more than 40 survivors for vaccines, plus appointments for non-survivor spouses and their caregivers. Numerous volunteers have given generously of their time to help with transportation to the State Farm Stadium. Thank you Kathy, thank you to our partners, thank you to our volunteers who assisted! JFCS is proud to receive a $10,000 grant award for our #RealWorldJobDevelopment from azcentral, Season for Sharing! The Real World Job Development started in 2006, and over the last 15 years have helped countless teens between the ages of 16 and 24 learn how to apply their knowledge and skills to find gainful employment. Participants in this program have gone on to find work in schools, hospitals, veterinary clinics, small businesses, and more. Many foster care youth enrolled in this program manage to achieve their educational and/or employment goals. Thank you, again to #AZCentral, #TheArizonaRepublic and Season for Sharing for helping JFCS' Real World Job Development, and most importantly for cultivating the youth of tomorrow! Together we continue to heal lives, whatever it takes. #JFCSAZ #RWJD #SeasonForSharing #TheRepublic #SFS2020
