Wildfires continued to rage across California today, forcing tens of thousands of residents to evacuate their homes in several counties and threatening restaurants and wineries in the state’s northern wine country.
As two massive blazes consumed large expanses of the state throughout the morning, California was rapidly advancing toward a record four million acres burned in a single year.
The Glass Fire, which began as three separate fires on Sunday that merged, continued expanding across Napa County on Tuesday. By Tuesday evening, it had consumed more than 45,000 acres — many with no history of wildfires — and still posed a threat to major residential areas, according to Cal Fire, the state’s fire agency.

Authorities are investigating the latest shooting outside a Las Vegas Strip resort amid a spike in violent crime around the city’s marquee tourist area that police said Wednesday has led to at least 1,100 arrests since Aug. 1 and the seizure of more than 60 weapons. Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo blamed a surge of recent violence on out-of-town visitors who come to Las Vegas but are unable to visit nightclubs and entertainment venues that remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Several people were detained Friday night at the scene of a shooting on Melrose Ave. in West Hollywood.
Deputies responded to reports of a shooting near the corner of Melrose Ave. and North Westbourne Dr. around 6:30 p.m. Multiple people were taken into custody, but their involvement in the shooting is unclear.
