John Park, MD, PhD, is the chief of neurological surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Queens, affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Queens. He is a faculty member of neurological surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine and part of the neurosurgery team at the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center.
For more than 25 years, Dr. Park has been practicing as a board-certified neurosurgeon. He specializes in treating brain and spinal tumors and degenerative disorders of the cervical and lumbar spine. From 2002 to 2013, Dr. Park served as the chief of surgical and molecular neuro-oncology for the National Institutes of Health and as the primary brain tumor surgeon for the National Cancer Institute. Before joining NYP and Weill Cornell, Dr. Park founded and served as the medical director of the multidisciplinary Brain and Spinal Tumor Program at Cottage Health in Santa Barbara, California.
Dr. Park earned both his MD and PhD degrees at Harvard Medical School. He completed his residency training at Harvard at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital and completed his research fellowship at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He completed advanced spine training at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He is a fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Active in research, Dr. Park has been published in leading medical journals as a principle investigator and has contributed to innumerous studies. He is the recipient of prestigious awards from the American Brain Tumor Association, the Joint Pediatric Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the New England Cancer Society, and the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation and has received research funding organizations, including the National Institute of Health, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the American Brain Tumor Association, and the Neurosurgery Research and Education Foundation.
