In podiatry there are many factors that are in play when it comes to having heel pain. Plantar Fasciitis is the inflammation of the ligaments on the bottom of the foot, commonly known as heel pain. However, Tarsal Tunnel syndrome is the entrapment of the Posterior Tibial nerve that runs down the inside of the ankle and more often than not manifests itself as heel pain in the medial or plantar aspect of the heel. If traditional treatments for " heel pain" fail, we usually tend to look to an additional diagnostic evaluation in the form of NCS/EMG (Electromyography) to determine if in fact the nerve is involved and can then at that time further discuss treatment options to release the entrapment of the nerve.
