About

About Dr. John S. Michels, MD
John S. Michels, MD, of Interventional Spine & Pain in Dallas, serving greater Dallas/Ft. Worth, Highland Park, University Park, Preston Hollow, and surrounding areas, is a former first-round NFL draft choice and Super Bowl champion with the Green Bay Packers. After an injury ended his football career, he decided to take his experience as a patient and use it to drive his passion as a doctor of interventional pain management.
As a result of his road to healing, Dr. Michels possesses a deeper level of empathy and compassion and a new understanding of the complex challenges of pain. This motivates him to help each patient return to optimal health.
He’s now an expert in interventional pain medicine. At his practice, his goal is to ensure that pain and injury don’t stop his patients from living out their passions in their own lives.
Dr. Michels received his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine of USC in Los Angeles, where he became a dean’s list scholar and member of the medical school admissions committee. He then went to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston to complete a residency in diagnostic radiology.
Following his residency, Dr. Michels completed an ACGME-accredited, multidisciplinary fellowship in interventional pain management at the University of California, Irvine. He’s now double board-certified in diagnostic radiology and pain medicine.
Dr. Michels is recognized by his peers and patients for his compassionate and high-quality medical care. He has received numerous awards, including Top Doc in 2017 and 2018, the Healthgrades Honor Roll, and Super Doctors Rising Stars Edition, a recognition he was awarded three years in a row. He has also been honored with the Vitals Compassionate Doctor Award and the Vitals Patients’ Choice Award.
