About John David Mullins, MD
John David Mullins, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 40 years of clinical experience. He specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery at his practice on the campus of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital in Atlanta.
After earning his Medical Degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Dr. Mullins completed an internship at the US Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, followed by three years of active duty service. He continued to serve throughout his time in private practice, retiring in 2014 as the Georgia National Guard Chief Medical Officer after 41 years in the Air Force.
Upon his return to Atlanta, Dr. Mullins completed residencies in general surgery at Emory University Hospital and Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. Following his residency training, Dr. Mullins completed fellowship training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
Dr. Mullins holds certifications as a wound care specialist, hyperbaric oxygen therapist, and laser specialist. He’s certified in plastic surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
Past positions include president of the Georgia Society of Plastic Surgery, chief of plastic surgery at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, and guest lecturer at Emory School of Medicine. Currently, Dr. Mullins serves as the chairman of the department of surgery at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital, as well as chairman of Georgia Surgical Expeditions, a philanthropic surgical team that performs surgery on indigent children in the Philippine Islands.
