UPDATE 10/3/20: Paving is canceled for Saturday night due to weather conditions. If weather permits, crews will attempt to finish the work on Sunday night.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Final paving of Shaver and South Westnedge (from Centre to Romence) will begin on Friday at 8 PM and stop at 8 AM on Saturday. Paving will pick up again on Saturday at 8 PM and conclude by 10 AM on Sunday. This work was originally scheduled on September 27 - 28, but was delayed due to weather conditions.
Access to driveways will be maintained except for brief periods during paving operations. Traffic delays can be expected in this area and drivers are urged to seek an alternate route. Motorists are asked to slow down and watch for individuals and equipment engaged in this work.

Here are some School Bus Safety Tips from our friends at Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning
-Prepare to stop when a slowing bus has its overhead yellow lights flashing.
-Stop at least 20 feet away for buses when red lights are flashing, unless driving in the opposite direction on a divided highway.
-Slow down in or near school and residential areas.
-Look for clues - such as safety patrols, crossing guards, bicycles, and playgrounds - that indicate children might be in the area.
-Watch for children between parked cars and other objects.
-Use additional caution in bad weather.

We have launched Phase 1A and Phase 1B Organization Registration Forms to our website. Employers in Phases 1A and 1B should complete an organization registration form on our website, if they have not registered with us already: https://www.kalcounty.com/hcs/covid19vaccine.php
Individuals eligible through their employment for Phase 1A and Phase 1B should expect scheduling information through their employers.
Yesterday (1/6/21), MDHHS did update their vaccine priority guidance and announced Phase 1B (essential frontline organizations and individuals 75 and older) and Phase 1C Group A (individuals 65-74 years old) are now eligible starting Monday, January 11.
Vaccination in Kalamazoo County for all phases is dependent on vaccine supply received from the State. Shipment of vaccine supply has been limited. Vaccine supply will largely be the determining factor for when Kalamazoo County can move into the next phases. We are exhausting 90% of vaccine supply within 7 days of receiving it. As vaccine supply increases, we will increase vaccination clinics to meet the needs and phases.
The health department is currently working on plans for vaccination clinics for Phase 1B (individuals and organizations) and Phase 1C Group A (individuals).
A pre-registration form for individuals 65 and older is not available on our website yet. The health department will notify the public via press release, social media, and website once available.

Guess we can't say it enough. As of now, since the warning from US National Weather Service Grand Rapids Michigan, Friday, Kalamazoo County has experienced no fewer than 8 out-of-control grass/brushfires. They weren't kidding, and neither are we.
