The DOT physical is the most important qualification for any commercial driver and ensures the safety of yourself and other drivers sharing the road.
The Department of Transportation requires all commercial drivers to receive regular physical examinations from a practioner registered with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners. The truck driver physical looks for conditions that could impair your ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
A DOT physical exam is valid for up to two years, if you’re deemed in good health. Drivers with certain conditions are limited to one year of certification only. These are discussed at the time of your examination. If you are in need of further testing, the examiner will tell you what you will need to do. If you are found medically fit to drive, you’ll be furnished a copy of your results, a medical examiner’s certificate, and your DOT medical card.
