Winter time means cold weather and bundling up our little ones to keep them warm. But did you know that bulky and heavy coats for keeping your child warm can also reduce a child’s safety when belted in their car seat?
Wearing those coats may provide enough room for your child to wiggle loose from their protective harness. Even worse, in a crash, the harness will compress that bulky coat and may alter its ability to properly perform and provide proper protection.
Best practice is to remove the coat, properly secure the harness on the child, and then blanket your child with their coat. Learn more: https://www.cpsboard.org/car-seat-safety/
