About

Dr. Joseph Caruso is a double board-certified general and vascular surgeon providing comprehensive vascular health care at Complete Vascular Care in Arlington, Texas. He offers traditional and minimally invasive vascular surgery for conditions including peripheral artery disease, venous insufficiency, and varicose veins.
With many years of experience, Dr. Caruso believes it’s essential to understand both traditional treatments and minimally invasive treatments for vascular health issues, like peripheral artery disease, as well as stay up to date with emerging treatments and technologies. He believes the key to optimal patient care is to know which surgical option is the best for each patient and have the knowledge and skill to deliver exactly what the patient needs.
After earning his medical degree at State University of New York (SUNY) Brooklyn, Dr. Caruso served his internship and general surgery residency at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He continued his surgical training with a vascular surgery fellowship, in which he focused on the most advanced minimally invasive and open surgical techniques. He went on to complete an additional year as a research fellow, during which he won an award from the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma for his clinical research.
Dr. Caruso was born and raised on Long Island, New York, but loves his home in Texas. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his family and riding his motorcycle at one of the local race tracks.

A little follow up on our foray into telemedicine. I have “interacted” with about 20 patients this week via video conferencing and so far so good! I am a little annoyed because those of you who typically bring me home made delicious baked goods (you know who you are) are unable to satisfy my inner snack monster. We are still available for non invasive vascular lab testing if (and only if!) we identify issues for which waiting my be detrimental to patient outcome. Otherwise, and by state mandate no less, no elective procedures, things for which a delay will not alter outcome, are to be performed before April 21. And believe me the medical board in Texas is NOT screwing around about this. The only issue has been related to connection times as I imagine everyone is using the internet for everything! We will continue to do our part. Until then, wash your hands, remain home if your sick, follow the current guidelines on social distancing, and exhale only (kidding!). Hope for you all to stay well and safe and for things to start improving soon. -JC

Vascular Surgery Nursery Rhymes (Friday edition!) Picture is from an App I use in the office called Visible Body. Highly recommend! Hey Diddle Diddle The aorta is brittle The iliac’s are rock solid too. The cardiologist feared That no cure was near. But the surgeon took care of this too. The aorta, the largest blood vessel in the body, originates from the heart and gives off branches throughout its course. Represented in red, the aorta and its branches (the iliacs being the large branches that supply the legs) are susceptible to both aneurysm (dilation) as well as occlusion. The end stage of arterial disease being calcification of the vessel walls, when they become rigid and brittle. While minimally invasive options exist to treat both types of issues, an open surgical approach may be required in which case a cardiothoracic or vascular surgeon is needed. Enjoy the weekend! -JC
