Dr. Melvin received his Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College and his medical degree from Rush Medical College of Rush University in Chicago. He completed his general surgery residency at the University of Missouri and concluded his advanced surgical fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Wisconsin.
Beginning with managing colon and rectal cancer and the goal of cancer cure, Dr. Melvin utilizes minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery where beneficial for colorectal disease.
He offers patients the chance of curing ulcerative colitis with avoidance of permanent ileostomy through the use of minimally invasive J-pouch surgery. Additionally, he offers an S-pouch procedure for some patients who are unable to receive a J-pouch.
