Monday morning, September 28: I started to make cup of coffee with the Keurig, only I forgot to actually put a cup under the dispenser. The alarm system at the office is malfunctioning. And the computer system is down. The Bangles song “Manic Monday” comes to mind.
Had a great time running the Virtual Boston Marathon on Saturday. My family and friends went all out to make it a fun and memorable experience! Here are a few of the fun signs they made.

Good things happen when neighbors come together. Last week I mentioned I would be supporting the BakPak Pals program through Communities in Schools of Robeson County. Today, I made a $1,000 donation to help provide students with nutritional meal and snack options during the summer. BakPak Pals expects to provide bags to over 200 students each week this summer in Lumberton, Maxton, and Red Springs. The program began in 2011, and guidance counselors identify students who may not have consistent access to adequate food on weekends during the school year. Now, the program has been extended during the summer months as well. Typically, a BakPak consists of two juices, two breakfast items, two main meal items, a fruit cup, pudding cup, and snacks. Thank you to CIS of Robeson for working to eliminate hunger as one of the major obstacles facing many of our students!
Now more than ever, being a good neighbor means everything. That's why I'll be working with Communities in Schools of Robeson County and its BakPak Pals program to make sure students continue to have nutritious food options during the summer months.

Registration for our upcoming Halloween Candy Crawl begins Monday, October 19! Please join us for a ghoulishly good night on Friday, October 30, from 6 - 8p.m. in the Main Library garden. Activity BOOths will be set-up and children will receive candy and prizes throughout the event! A photo backdrop will be provided for pictures and there will be lots of spooky decorations to enjoy. Registration is required. Maximum group number is 6 per registration. Event is for ages 0 - 12. Family friendly costumes are encouraged!
COVID guidelines will be followed at the event. Participants must wear a cloth face covering. Costume masks are acceptable. Hand sanitizer will be stationed around the garden. Staff will be monitoring that guidelines are being followed.

Reminder our BBQ plate sale is November 6, 2020. This year we will be cooking our BBQ on wood fired grills. Carry out and drive through options will be available. Plates are $5.00.
If you are a baker and would like to donate pound cakes, we ask they be sliced and individually wrapped. They can be dropped off at unit headquarters Thursday, November 5th, after 10am.

With your help, we were able to deliver 70 much-needed food items to the Robeson County Church and Community Center over the weekend. A huge thank you to all who made contributions to our food drive!
It’s beginning to look a lot like a socially distanced Christmas around here. The tree and decorations are up, Christmas music is playing, and our sign received a festive makeover. We’re doing our best to make it feel like a normal Christmas even though our lobby is still closed to customers. Don’t forget to bring non-perishable food for the food drive and grab one of our 2021 calendars while you’re here!
