Joshua D. Harris, MD, is a dedicated and experienced orthopedic specialist in Houston. He has advanced training in sports injuries and arthroscopic surgery for the treatment of labral tears, femoroacetabular impingement, labral reconstruction, gluteus medius tears, hamstring tears, and ischiofemoral impingement. Dr. Harris treats patients from puberty through adulthood to ensure patients have a comfortable, active life free from pain and disability. Dr. Harris is an international leader in orthopedic sports medicine and hip preservation research, having written over 250 peer-reviewed publications, 50 book chapters, and 3 books.
Dr. Harris earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He then attended The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus for his medical doctorate (M.D.) and Orthopedic Surgery residency. After completing his residency, Dr. Harris completed a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Rush University in Chicago. Following his fellowship, Dr. Harris completed an additional traveling fellowship in arthroscopic hip preservation surgery.
During his time in Chicago, Dr. Harris served as an orthopedist for the Chicago Bulls, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Steel, and the DePaul University men’s and women’s basketball and soccer teams. He then relocated to Houston to establish his practice and offer evidence-based orthopedic medicine to help with a wide range of orthopedic and hip-specific complaints.
In addition to his clinical practice and prolific research program, Dr. Harris is also Associate Editor for the prestigious Arthroscopy Journal. He is a member of the International Society of Hip Arthroscopy, The Arthroscopy Association of North American, the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and the Orthopaedic Research Society. He is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine.
As a leader in the field of orthopedic surgery and one of a limited number of hip specialists in the Houston area, Dr. Harris provides educational information and extensive resources to his patients so that they’re informed about their diagnoses and the best treatment options available. Dr. Harris performs over 300 arthroscopic hip surgeries per year and has performed over 1,500 in his career.
