Methanol, or methyl alcohol, which is found in hand sanitizer, antifreeze, and many other common household products, is NOT the same as beverage alcohol. As little as 30ml (two tablespoons or a mouthful) can KILL you. It also attacks the optic nerve, so if it doesn't kill you, it will permanently blind you. One of the most important distinctions between PTSD and C-PTSD is the flashbacks. With PTSD, flashbacks are often a distinct memory of the traumatic event. Think of the stereotype of the combat veteran who hears a firecracker and suddenly thinks he's in the jungles of Vietnam. With C-PTSD you have *emotional* flashbacks, which are much more insidious. With emotional flashbacks, you flash back to the emotion of the triggering event, but not the memory. Seemingly normal, every day things can suddenly make you angry, sad, anxious, or depressed. You can't understand why because only the emotion is resurfacing, not the memory that goes with it. Help is available. Call 239-318-9682. Bits of Psychology November 10 at 2:46 PM · What are some differences between complex PTSD and PTSD? Complex PTSD (CPTSD) is often associated with repeated trauma, whereas PTSD is generally related to a single event. 🔁 Symptoms of CPTSD may go beyond PTSD and further disrupt an affected person’s ability to live and cope on a daily basis, transforming their entire worldview. CPTSD can be caused by long term physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, or extreme neglect. ❌ Those with CPTSD may experience difficulties in relationships and have a hard time trusting others. They may have a distorted perception of what “meaning” is, and may relive trauma through flashbacks and nightmares. They may face difficulties regulating emotions and possess a negative self view. As a means of coping with repeated trauma, one with CPTSD may have learned to dissociate, detaching oneself from emotions and thoughts, having “out of body” experiences. They may suffer from sleep issues and feel hypervigilant, having to be aware of danger in the environment and among people at all times. ⚠️ As a means to manage the pain, those with CPTSD may engage in risky or destructive behavior and may self harm. CPTSD is not easy to diagnose and may often be compared with PTSD or borderline personality disorder (BPD), but they are all rather different. . . . It is very important to learn to sit with your feelings and process them rather than try to ignore them or distract yourself. Pain only becomes misery when you refuse to accept it. If your friend or loved one is in pain, rule number one is KEEP THE PLATITUDES TO YOURSELF. They do no good and often cause additional harm. Just sit with your loved one and be with them in their pain. Refuge In Grief 19 hrs · Here's what I most want you to know: this really is as bad as you think. No matter what anyone else says, this sucks. What has happened cannot be made right. What is lost cannot be restored. There is no beauty here, inside this central fact. Acknowledgement is everything. You're in pain. It can't be made better. The reality of grief is far different from what others see from the outside. There is pain in this world that you can't be cheered out of. You don't need solutions. You don't need to move on from your grief. You need someone to see your grief, to acknowledge it. You need someone to hold your hand while you stand there in blinking horror, staring at the hole that was your life. Some things cannot be fixed. They can only be carried. —Megan Devine, from the first page of "It's OK that You're Not OK: Meeting Grief and Loss in a Culture that Doesn't Understand" (https://refugeingrief.com/book/)
