Don’t be tricked, choosing the right treats may help your children steer clear of the #MouthMonsters #GingerBiteUs, #TartartheTerrible and #ToothD.K. Dark chocolates and sugar-free gum are better for the teeth compared to gummies, caramel, sour candy or bubble gum, because they are less likely to get stuck in the grooves and crevices of the teeth. #kidsdentist #healthysmiles #nocavityclub #cavityfree #Joy #Ellie
Baby teeth are very important in guiding the future adult teeth.😬 These maintain space for the permanent teeth and guide them to erupt properly!🌋 Many people feel baby teeth do not need any care by dentists, but that is certainly not the case. Compared to adult teeth, baby teeth have a thinner layer of enamel. Due to this, cavities progress faster in baby teeth.🦠 Don't let your little one get painful cavities. Take them for regular dental appointments!📅 Contact our team at Joyful Smiles Pediatric Dentistry Today!🕒 ☎️(708) 794-9526

Kids learn by watching adults, and young kids naturally want to emulate the behaviors of adults they trust. That’s why the first and easiest way to begin teaching #kids healthy #dental habits is to practice them yourself! A good routine starts with #flossing daily and #brushing twice a day with a soft-bristled #toothbrush and #fluoride #toothpaste.
Did you know❓ Fluoride offers many benefits for your oral health! It is very important for children and protects the teeth from decay and cavities. 🦠 It protects teeth from acids in sugary drinks and food and helps in rebuilding weak areas. It can be easily found in water and foods like fish, meat and eggs! Get your toddler enough fluoride for strong and healthy teeth.💪

Baby teeth fall out to make space for permanent teeth.🦷🦷 When the tooth starts to wiggle a little, it can be tempting to pull it out.📌 But pulling out the baby tooth before it comes out on its own can be a bloody and scary affair! If it disturbs your kid, you can wiggle it gently so that it comes loose and falls out faster.💨
THIS TIKTOK TREND is dangerous! Unlike filing your nails, filing your teeth can lead to permanent damage, tooth sensitivity, and even the loss of your tooth. http://ow.ly/v38i50BSeJH NEWS.YAHOO.COM TikTok users are shaving down their teeth with nail files. Dentists say it could cause permanent damage.
TGIF! 😁 Remember to cast your vote for your favorite pumpkin! We think they just may be the "coolest pumpkins around"!
It is difficult to keep children away from candies, especially around halloween and the holidays!🎃 These sticky candies get stuck to the grooves of the back molars and can cause cavities!🦠 Dental sealants are a great way to ensure that the candy and bacteria remain sealed out and do not harm the tooth!🦷🦷 Get your little one ready for the holidays. Contact us to know more about dental sealants or to schedule an appointment.👍 ☎️(708) 794-9526.
Getting #kids to eat #healthy snacks that are good for their #teeth can be challenging enough, but trying to replace their #Halloween #candy with a healthy snack and some parents want to wave the white flag ⚐ Here's a few ideas to keep you feeling good about giving your kids snacks. 👉Cheese sticks 👉Yogurt 👉Fresh Veggies 👉Fruites 👉Nuts
WHAT’s your favorite TOOTH emoji? 😍😛😝😜🤪🤣 Our team having FUN and PAINTING teeth at our in-office TEAM BUILDING event! Big thanks to all of our AMAZING team members for what you do daily to make us great!
🎃Happy Halloween Week!🎃 🧛🏻‍♀️Halloween will look different this year but there will still be lots of treats! Sorting through all the candy options can be tough, not all candy is created equally. Here are the top candies to avoid as well as alternative treats: 👻Hard, gummy, and sour candies stay in the mouth longer and can get stuck in the grooves of our teeth! This allows the sugar bugs to use them for a longer period of time and create acid that can break down tooth enamel! 💀Better candy alternatives are sugar free gum or chocolate. Chocolate is not sticky and is washed off the tooth surface by saliva relatively quickly.

Misaligned teeth are primarily caused either due to genetic or environmental factors.🌍 Habits such as sucking on the thumb, mouth-breathing, or tongue-thrusting disturb the balance of forces in the mouth resulting in a low tongue position which is the major cause of crowded teeth, narrow jaws, proclined teeth, and also bad breath.🦷🦷 At Joyful Smiles Pediatric Dentistry, we can identify these causes early and intercept them even before permanent changes or damage to the teeth or jaw happen!🤔 If you have a child that sucks their thumb, contact us at Joyful Smiles Pediatric Dentistry today!🤙 ☎️(708) 794-9526.

Make sure to keep a few things in mind to take proper care of your kid’s baby teeth.🦷🦷 ✨ Use an infant toothbrush with soft bristles to brush your child’s teeth. Make sure to apply a little bit of toothpaste with water.💧 ✨ You can floss your child’s teeth once in a while or even on a regular basis for deep cleaning.😬 ✨ If your child is 2 years old or above, start teaching him or her to spit while brushing. Don’t give him/her water to swish and spit as that increases the chances of kids swallowing the toothpaste.🪥
GIVE US A CALL today to schedule your next appointment!
Kids often get scared about the very thought of visiting a dental clinic. This generally happens due to previous experience of visiting a dental clinic with not so apt ambience. Now choose a pediatric dental clinic with a few things in mind. ✨ The dental clinic should definitely have a playing space area where the kid can relax a bit and feel at home. This will take the panic off from his/her mind. The staff should be adept at handling situations which can easily occur in case of children. ✨ Make sure that the pediatric dentist you choose has completed his/her Pediatric Dentistry from an accredited institution. ✨ The pediatric dentist should have good behavior and excellent management skills which will help to make the child comfortable at the dental office. ✨ Research on the internet and ask for advice from friends and family before choosing a pediatric dentist for your kid. Start early if you want your kid to have good oral health in the near future. ☎️(708) 794-9526.
Baby formula usually contains dietary sugars such as lactose and sucrose, which can cause early childhood caries in infants with poor dental hygiene.. . To prevent what we call ‘Baby Bottle Tooth Decay’:. . ✨Practice a good dental hygiene routine using an infant sized, soft-bristled toothbrush as soon as the first tooth arrives.. . ✨Never put your baby to bed with a milk/formula bottle as milk pools in the baby’s mouth and the sugars in it feeds the bacteria that cause decay as the baby sleeps; Also, it’s a choking hazard for younger infants.. . ✨Encourage your child to drink from a cup as he or she approaches their first birthday. Children should be weaned from the bottle at 12-14 months of age.
Did you know that your teenagers are at risk of developing cavities as much as toddlers are. But don’t worry!👦 Make sure that the children watch their diet and clean their mouth properly after eating. With regular brushing and flossing and a healthy diet, they will keep smiling bright!😊
In this season of gratitude, lets remember all the things that has made us smile this year and the joy it has brought. #JoyfulSmiles #Gratitude #NoRegrets
Does your child get the required amount of fluoride?🪥 Fluoride helps in replacing the lost minerals from the tooth.🦷🦷 This strengthens the tooth and prevents decay.🦠 While most children get their required amount of fluoride from drinking water and their toothpaste, in some cases they might need to take fluoride supplements.💊 Contact our team at Joyful Smiles Pediatric Dentistry to make sure your child is getting enough fluoride.🪥
Start caring for your kid’s oral health when there is time. This will help to fight the bacterial growth from the very beginning and in turn eliminate chances of them suffering from dental issues in the near future.🔮 So without any more waste of time contact the best pediatric dentist at Joyful Smiles. We are here to help your kid with all sorts of preventive dental care.🦷🦷 ☎️(708) 794-9526.
PEDIATRIC DENTISTS get two to three years of specialty training after dental school, so we’re experts in treating little smiles.
Your kid would be delighted to know that certain cheeses are known to disrupt the development of cavities!🦠 Cheeses such as aged cheddar and mozzarella stimulate saliva secretion and help in keeping the mouth clean! Just make sure that these cheeses are had after the meal, alone as a snack! A tasty snack, a healthy mouth!🧀

ARE YOU COVERED? If so, are you using the full benefits of your insurance? If you haven’t used them yet, make sure you do before they’re gone!
Most people put their little one to sleep with a bottle. 🍼 While some fill it with milk or baby formula, some use other kinds of liquids. But did you know that using anything other than water can be harmful. The sugar from the milk or other drinks will stay in the mouth throughout the night and can easily cause cavities and decay. 🦷 So the next time you put your baby to sleep with a bottle, make sure you use water only! 😃
We are glad to welcome a new member to our Joyful Smiles team - Dr. Ayanna Williams. 😍 Dr. Ayanna has received many awards including the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry Certificate of Merit. 😃She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Chicago Dental Society, and the Illinois State Dental Society. Toddlers generally start teething between the ages of 6 months and 3 years. 🦷 Even before teeth come in, we suggest parents to wipe their children’s gums after each meal.🍼 This will keep the mouth clean and also get them into the habit of cleaning their mouth after every meal. 😍

Who doesn’t love potato chips?! 😍 Unfortunately, chips can be as bad for teeth as candy because starchy foods like chips and crackers can easily stick in the tiny grooves of your teeth and provide the sugars that cavity-causing bacteria need to grow. Go ahead and enjoy the occasional snack, just don’t forget to brush twice a day for two minutes! 😁
One of the goals of brushing 2 times a day is to prevent and remove plaque from your teeth, but plaque is pretty soft! 🦷 Brushing too hard only serves to wear down your mouth's natural defenses and can actually lead to bigger problems down the road. Toothpaste is abrasive enough, so let it do the hard work! 😁

Did you know that bacteria can hide under our gums? 🤷🏾♀️⠀ ⠀ That’s why gum health is so important! And that’s why your child needs to floss daily ☝️– to get rid of the bacteria in plaque and avoid gum irritation and disease.⠀ ⠀ But what’s the best way to do it?⠀ 1. Cut off about 40cm of floss⠀ 2. Wrap around your index finger on each hand⠀ 3. Place floss between two teeth⠀ 4. Move floss smoothly up and down the side of each tooth, ensuring you reach the space between the gum and tooth⠀ ⠀ Show your child how it’s done! Oral piercings may be popular among teens these days, but it's very important to be aware of the harm they can cause (short and long term) and the oral health risks associated with their use, like: ♦️Piercing the tongue can alter your sense of taste. ♦️Tongue swelling that can result from a piercing and can be severe enough to block the airway and impede breathing. ♦️The piercing needle can go through a blood vessel and cause bleeding that’s difficult-to-control and cause significant blood loss. Also, nerves can get damaged during piercing. ♦️Piercings can retain food debris and bacteria accumulation. In case of complication, remove the piercing and get professional dental attention immediately. #oralpiercings #pediatricdentistry #pediatricdentists #dentisttinleypark

YES, It's true!😄 A lot of concerned parents come to us with a similar doubt. Spacing in your child's milk teeth is a good sign. They make sure there is enough space for the larger Permanent Teeth to erupt. Milk teeth are smaller as compared to permanent teeth. The extra space is utilized by the permanent teeth to form a well-aligned smile!😍 #pediatricdentisttinley #pediatricdentists #teething #JoyfulSmiles

Ever wonder about when to start using toothpaste and how much? The AAPD recommends using a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste to brush your baby’s teeth twice a day as soon as baby teeth erupt (until then, clean your baby’s gums with a soft infant toothbrush or cloth and water). For children aged 3-6, the amount of toothpaste should be increased to the size of a pea. Children should spit out and never swallow excess toothpaste after brushing. Happy brushing!

So ever wondered what causes cavities? Is it just chocolate or is it more than that? Here is the answer, It is the combination of 4 factors: - diet🥙 - eating habits - dental routine 🦷 - bad bacteria 🦠 So just brushing but not managing the diet will not help. Likewise, just managing the diet but not strengthening the teeth will not prevent cavities. To prevent cavities all the 4 factors need to be managed properly. And trust us- it can be done very easily. #joyfulsmiles #pediatricdentistry #pediatricdentist #cavities

Dental sealants are a safe, conservative, and affordable way to protect your child’s teeth from cavities! Grooves or pits trap food debris. The bacteria present in the food lead to cavities! Sealants can effectively stop cavities and prevent small cavities from turning into larger ones, avoiding the need for fillings or crowns! 😍 Teeth are more susceptible to cavities when they first erupt into the mouth because they have the least amount of time to harden and get stronger from fluoride and saliva. That’s why sealants are most beneficial when the tooth first erupts into the mouth! 🥰 #Joyfulsmiles #sealants #cavities #cavities #toothdecay #pediatricdentist #pediatricdentistry
