Vilma Brice-Smith was diagnosed with stage three #ovariancancer on Halloween Day in 2014. Her story is not uncommon. Ovarian cancer, otherwise known as the “Whisper Killer,” can go undetected until it develops into late stage cancer – often too late for successful treatment. Vilma was quickly referred to Dr. Donna Pinelli, Medical Director of Gynecologic Oncology and The Walsh Robotic Surgery Program at Jupiter Medical Center. One week and a day from Vilma's diagnosis, Dr. Pinelli performed a full hysterectomy using the da Vinci Robotic Surgery System. After cancer treatment, Vilma is now cancer-free and committed to spreading the word about women's cancer. Read more about her story during #OvarianCancerAwareness Month: https://bit.ly/3iIminh
Kim Snowden, RN, BSN, OCN, is an important member of the Radiation Oncology team at Jupiter Medical Center. For Kim, a passion for nursing runs in the family. She was inspired to join the profession because her grandmother was an operating room nurse, and her daughter has now become an RN herself. Kim says what she loves most about her job is “being able to help the patients and their families through the journey of cancer treatment.” We thank Kim for her 32 years of incredible service to JMC patients. #BehindTheMask #ThrowbackThursday

Annmarie Zaccagnino has a family history of #breastcancer. Her mother was diagnosed and survived breast cancer 30 years ago, and when her father was diagnosed this year, she made the decision to have #genetictesting. “I was fortunate that my test results were negative, and I am not at a higher risk. While it gave me some peace of mind, I know that I need to be proactive and have my mammogram each year.” Annmarie said. "This chair represents the importance of knowing your family history and how it can impact your health and well-being. Knowledge is power. Know your risk." Annmarie’s chair is being hosted by Bloomingdale's in The Gardens Mall. Read more about her story: https://bit.ly/2I7dSs3. #PinkChairProject
COVID is causing uncertainty for all of us. What is certain is that diseases like #cancer, #heartdisease and #arthritis may go undetected, undiagnosed or untreated. Dena and Irene are a mother and daughter who were both diagnosed with breast cancer less than a month apart. They have used humor to help themselves stay positive, and they’ve brought that same humor to the #PinkChairProject. “Even though there are days where we struggle, our sarcasm and sense of humor bring lightness to the situation that wouldn’t otherwise be there,” Dena said. “Both mom and I are artists and wanted to incorporate both our odd sense of humor along with our artistic styles to create a collaboration that makes everyone smile! So, we went with a play on words. Hence, Blue-Footed Boobies will take center stage on our ‘Save the Boobies’ chair.” Their chair is being hosted by Brighton at The Gardens Mall.
