Destination Bolton - Bolton Economic Development Committee April 15, 2014 at 6:16 PM · Continuing our series presentation of the The Mixed Use Village Overlay District to be voted on May 5th at Town Meeting. I would like to discuss the Goals of the Overlay: Goals: (1) Create a mixed use overlay district that will meet the community’s goals for high quality development in the vicinity of the I-495 and Route 117 interchange. The Saltbox is excluded since many residents were concerned about it being too integrated into the current neighborhood. (2) Enable development within the overlay to have a village character that includes a mix of uses, including retail, office, and residential. (3) Allow the mixed use overlay district to be connected, via sidewalks and off-road trails to the existing residential areas and schools. This will provide for walk-ability and convenience for residents and students, and to provide potential shoppers for the businesses located in the overlay. (4) Provide commercial areas within walking distance to senior citizens living in the Bolton Country Manor housing facility. (5) Protect the streetscape appearance and provide development compatible with the historic character of the community and neighborhood. Keep an eye out for future EDC posts on the Overlay.
