Karl Coutinho, MD, is a highly-skilled reconstructive urologist who welcomes patients from Millburn, New Jersey, and its surrounding communities to his patient-focused practice. He uses his training and expertise to provide advanced genitourinary reconstruction and the most effective treatment available for issues such as erectile dysfunction, prostate cancer, and urinary incontinence.
Dr. Coutinho received his medical doctorate from New Jersey Medical School in 2010. He then completed his internship in general surgery and residency in urology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
He has been a member of the United States military since 2003, serving first as an infantry officer and now as a major in the New Jersey Army National Guard. His military experience compelled Dr. Coutinho to complete a fellowship in genitourinary trauma and reconstruction at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and University Hospitals of Cleveland. He received additional training in genitourinary prosthetics and reconstruction through courses at the renowned Perito Urology in Miami and as a visiting fellow at the Kulkarni Endosurgery Institute in Pune, India.
Recognized as an expert in his field, Dr. Coutinho has numerous publications and makes presentations at national medical conferences in the fields of urologic reconstruction, pediatric urology, kidney transplant, military medicine, and genitourinary prosthetics.
Dr. Coutinho’s areas of expertise include the placement of inflatable penile implants, urethral stricture disease, artificial urinary sphincter placement, advanced treatments of kidney and bladder stones, voiding dysfunction, benign prostatic hyperplasia, robotic surgery, prostate cancer, and genitourinary reconstruction.
