Yesterday evening, I got to participate in a Wednesday night group ride with the West Wichita Bicycle Chicks (although in this case, the group was mostly men 🙂). We hadn't had an organized Wednesday ride in about a year, and it has probably been about fifteen months since I rode with other people. It's nice to do normal 'stuff' when the opportunity presents itself. We had great weather and great company. If you live in the Wichita area and have a bike, this is a great group to go riding with. In case you are wondering, I went 22 miles; yes, I was dead when it was done; and no, Louise did not get her walk when I got home. Credit to Thomas Anderson for the first photo; second was taken by me (I like to hang out at the back of the pack). West Wichita Bicycle Chicks
This evening, I left the office, and headed off on a top secret mission. The objective was to help Jacques make a break for it, and escape certain death. After some paperwork and a trip through a confusing maze of hallways, the mission was completed, and I was rewarded with some snuggles. Jacques will be up for adoption through Beauties and Beasts. He's very sweet, so don't miss your chance to snatch this Superdog up. You can sniff out an adoption application at www.beautiesandbeasts.org. #shelterbreak #rescuewalker Beauties and Beasts, Inc.
Rylee has been visiting my household for the last few days. Today, she goes back to her foster home. Rylee would really love a permanent home to call her own. She is a very sweet dog who listens well and craves affection. She doesn't tear up things in the house, and she's a good guard dog (her bark is pretty scary, but she would probably lead any intruders right to the TV for some good ear scratches 🙂). She is cat and dog friendly, and a very petite thing at 40 pounds. She is very smart, and has a beautiful coat. Can you help Rylee find a home? Find more info on Rylee at: https://beautiesandbeasts.org/adopt/our-dogs/rylee #rescuewalker Beauties and Beasts, Inc.

You might remember Jacques from an earlier post, when we went on a top secret mission to escape certain death. Well, last night I got an opportunity to check in on this Superdog, and he is navigating boarding like a champ! He already freely gives hugs and kisses to the volunteers, and is reported to be cat friendly! Who wants a handsome, happy-go-lucky Superdog to complete their happy home? Louise and I went for a fun run this morning (okay, it was really a cross training session:Jog twenty yards, sudden stop, sniff something, pull on the leash, jog twenty yards, stop for pets from a little kid, pull on the leash, jog twenty yards, spot birds, THROTTLE the leash, etc.). It was her first time on the paths by the Keeper of the Plains, so everything was new. She was especially transfixed by the dam, and I thought she might actually dive in the water a few times. Odd behavior for a dog that really doesn't like putting more than her paws in. 😂 Louise hopes you have a swimmingly good weekend! 🐶🐟

I've had some clients inquiring about consequences of the election. While very few of us can predict who will control the Presidency and Congress, we usually know if we have a plan in place to protect income and assets, beyond the election. If you have not figured out a long-term plan for future income and savings, I encourage you to do so. If you need help, I'm here as a resource. In the meantime, here's a great piece that addresses questions you might have about the election. http://images.content.wmpsmktg.com/Web/AmeripriseFinancialINC/%7Be86c5bbe-a09f-49ba-bd58-5dae4f79c535%7D_Election_Insights_Investors_Roadmap_to_2020_Election.pdf

Spending the morning at BCBS for the Sunflower Showdown! It's a bit chilly. 😱 It's very odd to see the stadium so empty, but still a fun experience. Have a great Saturday! #gocats #sunflowershowdown
This evening, I'm thinking about all the people affected by the wildfires in Colorado. This photo was taken in Grand County in early August when my family and I were visiting. After a run outside Winter Park, I jokingly told them I was moving. Now, I'm praying that the people who do live there have homes to go back to when this is over. The potential loss of wildlife is also worrisome to me. Kansas (including Wichita) has sent several firefighters to help; I'm hoping they all remain safe. 🙏 #easttroublesomefire #prayforrain
Happy Thanksgiving! While 2020 has been a challenging year, it’s also shown us how much we still have to be grateful for. What are you thankful for?
Looking for a new car? You might want to read this before purchasing. Consider negotiating just the price of the car you're buying first, and then address a trade-in value after the price has been decided upon. Also, slow days at the dealership can make a difference - if you're the only one there, they'll want your business. Do your research online, read reviews, and look at the trim packages before you go to the dealer. You don't want to regret your purchase, and being informed is the best way to avoid an impulse buy. Student debt has been in the headlines often, recently. While I generally support the idea of some cancellation, I worry that it does nothing to fix the current student loan system. I went to school using student loans in the late 90's and early 2000's; I often wonder if I would have been able to bring myself to do the same now? I can't imagine my life without those four - ahem, five - years. I believe a liberal education is important; people should know history and the arts. Many consider those to be "useless" degrees now. How do we keep those programs accessible for posterity? I believe access to education is the hallmark of a civilized society. How do we maintain it without bankrupting our young people? Any ideas??? Tomorrow is #ThankfulThursday, so this evening I've been thinking about what I'm thankful for. I'm very thankful for our boarding dogs, because I get to spend time with them and hopefully help them along to their forever homes. This is Theo, one of those dogs. I was able to spend time with him this evening. Doesn't he have the greatest smile??? Theo was in our care as a puppy; he was part of the 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' litter. He was adopted, and later returned as an adult. Now he lives in our boarding facility full-time. Can you help make Theo's dream of a forever family come true? You can find more info on Theo here: https://beautiesandbeasts.org/adopt/our-dogs/theodore Beauties and Beasts, Inc. #rescuewalker #rescuedogsrock #adoptdontshop
I often meet with clients who have no idea what their parents' estate plan is, and others who don't want to talk about the details of their estate plan with their children. It concerns me, because I wonder what those people would do in an emergency situation. Please make sure someone responsible has access to your estate documents, knows your wishes, and is aware of your digital footprint. For your will or estate, sharing your plan - even at a high level - with your family can prevent future conflict. CNBC.COM What to tell your adult kids when planning your estate

Happy Monday! Time to meet a new boarding dog! Beautiful Pleakley has been in and out of Beauties' care for at least a year. She is a very sweet dog that LOVES treats. She blushes when she gets excited, and loves to give kisses (not pictured here: her best attempts to wash my face after photo #2 was taken 😂). She is more difficult to place because she is selective of her doggy friends and requires a strong leader in the home. She is a personal favorite of mine... will you help find her a permanent home? Please share and help her out - every share gets her closer to her new home.
