Earlier today, in conjunction with the Cuyahoga County Board of Developmental Disabilities, we were pleased to distribute COVID-19 vaccines to patients with developmental disabilities. These patients also have health conditions which put them at higher risk for more serious health problems if they contract COVID-19. Among patients vaccinated this morning include 21-year-old Emma Rath of Westlake, accompanied by her parents. They were pleasantly surprised when they realized Emma’s neurologist of 20 years, Dr. Nancy Bass, was volunteering her time at the clinic. Dr. Bass vaccinated Emma. Twenty-eight-year-old David Pierce of Cleveland also received his COVID-19 vaccination at UH’s clinic Saturday morning. “See, no biggie!” he said after the vaccination. To date, UH is the only hospital system in Northeast Ohio providing this type of vaccine clinic to the community. Caregivers distributing the vaccines are specially trained to work with this population. Please note: This is not an open clinic and UH will not be accepting walk-in patients. The patients served at this clinic have been previously identified and scheduled.
