Meet Illinois' Volunteer of the Week, Susan Whitfield. #AllInIllinois
Susan Whitfield has been a non-medical volunteer of the McHenry County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) since 2006. She found out about the MRC after researching a masters degree paper on pandemic preparedness that was published in 2007, and was used internationally for preparation for the 2009 H1N1 Influenza pandemic. With the MRC, she answered phone lines, and did entry paperwork for a Point of Dispensing (POD) when a vaccine became available. She also volunteered for the phone lines during a whooping cough outbreak. She appreciates the training through the MRC that she has received for CPR, AED, Disaster Mental First Aid, Stop the Bleed, Bloodborne Pathogens, and PPE and hopes to never use it as a member of the security team at her large church. She also serves as an Emergency Operations Center volunteer at the McHenry County Emergency Management Agency.
Early in the #COVID19 crisis, Susan realized that masks of all sorts would be in short supply. She also knew that one of the best ways to combat stress and anxiety is to engage in physical activity. She started a private Facebook Group to catalog mask making patterns and she initially sewed about 80 masks for the medical and healthcare community. These were donated to donors at a blood drive at her church, a home healthcare agency, and the Superhero patterns went to a hospital. But when the statewide mask protocol was announced for the general public, she realized that a mask had to be developed that was simpler and faster to produce. She dove into a large stash of tie-dyed t-shirts to produce the “Woodstock” pattern, named for her town and a nod to the everlasting style, and put up signs for the free masks outside her house. Members of the community and a screen printer donated more t-shirts to be recycled, and to date, over 850 masks have been made and distributed. “In the midst of the crisis, I realized how I had already been blessed with time, skill, and material to help meet the needs of other people. Seeing the people drive up and select masks - this has been more fun than Trick or Treat!”, said Whitfield.

We hope this message finds you and yours healthy during these challenging times.
Officials have notified us that it’s safe to reopen. We have implemented the following safety measures as mandated by the state and in accordance with best health practices from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
NEW SAFETY MEASURES
Treatment rooms and equipment will be cleaned before and after every patient according to CDC guidelines.
We have designated a roving sanitization specialist to continually clean all high-touch areas in the facility.
We are conducting paperless pre-visit screenings for all patients with upcoming appointments.
Our staff are up-to-speed on COVID-19 symptoms and utilize recommended Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Our waiting room is closed to help ensure patients maintain a safe social distance. Please arrive 10-minutes early to allow for curbside check-in. You may call or text our main line to inform the front desk of your arrival. We ask that you wait in your parked car or away from other patients outdoors.
We will meet you outside where your temperature will be taken prior to being brought into the building. If you have a fever, cough, shortness of breath or other COVID-19 symptom your appointment will be rescheduled.
Only patients, or patients plus one critical caregiver, are allowed into an appointment.
Our office is closed to all except patients and staff, (no sales or delivery people will enter the facility).
We ask that you wear a face-covering wherever possible.
We’ve added time between appointments to allow for sanitizing and to keep patients apart from one another to avoid high volume or density.
Any patients or staff who were diagnosed with COVID-19 must have an all-clear notification from their physician before entering our facility.
We ask that all patients use the hand sanitizer provided at the front door upon entering. It will also be available in other areas of the office.
As always, our main concern is the safety and well-being of our patients and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, contact us at any time. To request an appointment call, text or go through our website.
We look forward to seeing you soon!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
A big congratulations to Dr. Amanda Henry and her husband Jordan who tied the knot on 10/10/20! They had a small outdoor ceremony in Chicago on a beautiful Fall day. ❤️❤️❤️
It was an extra special staff meeting yesterday as we celebrated the team getting vaccinated! A huge thank you to the McHenry County Health Department nurses and staff for making this happen. We are excited to get the vaccine to keep our patients, our families, and our community safe. #KayandAmandaHenrydds #crystallake #mchenrycounty #moderna #yayscience
